BEREA, Ohio — Jameis Winston, who threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns in the Cleveland Browns’ 29-24 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, will continue as starting quarterback, coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday.

“Jameis is the starter,” Stefanski said.

Winston set a franchise record for most passing yards in the Browns’ debut and threw the go-ahead score to big receiver Cedric Tillman with 59 seconds left as Cleveland ended a five-game losing streak. It was Winston’s first start since September 25, 2022, when he was a member of the Brandnew Orleans Saints.

“I think he did a good job with the progressions,” Stefanski said. “I thought you saw it clearly.”

Winston was Deshaun Watson’s backup for the first six games of the season. He was named quarterback of disaster in the Browns’ Future 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but stepped in when Watson suffered a season-ending tear of his right Achilles tendon and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was injured the middle finger of your throwing hand.

The Browns (2-6) host the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Stefanski said linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was excused from a local sanatorium after being restrained and carried out of the outfield with a bruised neck that occurred during a collision with running back Derrick Henry.

The team said so far that Owusu-Koramoah had movement in all of his limbs and would remain in the sanatorium overnight as a safety precaution.

Stefanski did not include Owusu-Koramoah for Sunday’s tournament against the Chargers, and announced that the team would monitor his condition in the coming days.
