The destination of the “Push Tush” is in the hands of the owners this week at the annual meeting of the NFL League in Palm Beach, Florida. There, the decision on whether to prohibit the work that Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles have been formally presented. In the period prior to the vote, the Eagles coach, Nick Sirianni, was asked about the proposed change and transmitted that “better” has three votes in favor of the play of their former attendees turned into coaches throughout the league.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Sirianni told NFL Media on Sunday. “Everything I will say about it is (Jonathan) Gannon, (Shane) Steichen and (Kellen) Moore better vote for it. They are in the position (in chief) at this time due to that play. So the three, better, I have those three votes there and the vote of the Eagles. At least I know we have four.”
Gannon (Cardinals) and Steichen (Colts) were hired as chief coaches in 2023 and Moore left the organization just this season to become the chief coach of the New Orleans Saints. Since the “thrust of Tush” has been a key part of Philadelphia’s success about their holdings and, in part, helped them ascend to these roles, in theory, they should be followers to maintain it.
However, there are detractors of the “thrust of Tush”, including the Green Bay Packers, who were those who officially presented the issue of prohibiting the work. Previously, this low season, the CEO of the Packers, Mark Murphy, wrote in a question and answers session on the official website of the team that “is not a fan of this work” and that “there is no skill involved”, while admitting that it is essentially a first Down or automatic scorer with a patio or less to win. The Bills coach, Sean McDermott, also expressed concern for the safety of the players regarding the game during the NFL exploration combination.
For its part, Sirianni certainly expects this attempt to prohibit the work is not as successful as the “push of tum” in itself. Last season (including the playoffs), Philadelphia converted 39 of its 48 “Tush Push”, either in a first attempt or touchdown.
In order for this prohibition to enter into force, there must be a two -thirds majority (at least 24 teams).
