IO Interactive hopes its young James Bond will make a big name in ‘a great 007 trilogy’

IO Interactive hopes its post-James Bond recreation will also be the main entry in a trilogy.

The Hitman studio announced Project 007 via a shortened CGI trailer in November 2020.

That month it was shown that the game would feature a “totally original” Bond story, but not much has been seen about the project in recent years.

“So it’s not a gamification of a movie,” studio CEO Hakan Abrak told IGN in an unused interview. “It’s completely starting and developing into a story, hopefully for a big trilogy in the future.

“And equally important and exciting, it’s a new Bond. It’s a bond we build from the ground up for the players. It’s extremely exciting with all the lore and all the history that exists to work together on this together with the family to create a young Bond for the players; a bond that players can call their own and grow with.”

Abrak said IO sees the insufficiency of Bond games these days as a strength since the logo hasn’t been overexposed. And mentioning the great respect gamers still have for Uncommon’s 1997 vintage GoldenEye, he said the studio also hopes to make a lasting influence with its Bond game.

“I don’t want to talk too much about this, but I just hope that we make something that defines James Bond in video games for years to come. And it’s not just a game, but we created a universe for players to own for many years and we can grow together with Bond in the films.

Abrak also said that players shouldn’t have to wait long to hear more about the game.

“Production is going incredibly well and we will talk more about it soon. I know it was a small teaser, not a lot of information, but there are a lot of interesting things to come. “We are also very excited and when we are ready with that, we will open up.”

IO announced today that it has created a third-party publishing section. MindsEye, the “first premium AAA game” from Form A Rocket Boy, the studio based on former Lavish Robbery Auto maker Leslie Benzies, has signed on.
