Hogwarts Legacy’s Most Popular Markets are Shown by Steam Statistics

The nations driving the historic success of Hogwarts Legacy, WB Games’ biggest Steam launch to date, are revealed by recently surfaced data.

New Steam data has just revealed the countries driving the early sales of Hogwarts Legacy on PC. While other retailers sell this version of the hit action RPG, Valve’s storefront is arguably the most relevant data source for analyzing the game’s popularity among PC players, owing to its sheer size and the fact that Hogwarts Legacy is WB Games’ largest Steam launch ever.

Hogwarts Legacy launched on PC and current-gen consoles on February 10 after three days of early access to positive reviews and fan acclaim. Hogwarts Legacy went on to break sales records all over the world as a result of the commercial success that followed.

Even though it’s too soon to assess the full impact of this historic launch, Steam scraper Gamalytic has already offered a general breakdown of the game’s PC sales by country, based on an analysis of all open user profiles on Valve’s platform. Hogwarts Legacy Steam sales, according to estimates, are around 5 million, with close to a third coming from the United States, followed by Germany at about 7%, Brazil, and the United Kingdom at about 6% each.

The most recent estimates indicate that Hogwarts Legacy made its publisher about $210 million via the top PC storefront, assuming a flat revenue split of 70–30 between Warner Bros. and Valve. Hogwarts Legacy had one of the largest game development budgets in the history of the industry, but even though WB Games has never publicly disclosed the project’s official budget, this information still puts the company in the black just from Steam sales (which it plausibly did).

The game’s enormous PC success is consistent with Hogwarts Legacy’s Steam pre-order data, which was first revealed in January and is one of the earliest signs that the new ARPG will rank among the best-selling games of 2023. While that prediction is currently very likely to come true, the player base, which is expanding quickly, is already asking for an encore. Despite this, Avalanche Software recently stated that no DLC plans have been made as of yet.

So, while nothing is definite, the developer’s medium-term agenda is still solely focused on finishing work on Hogwarts Legacy’s last-generation ports. Not least of all because the newest Harry Potter game has yet to enter that additional 300 million-strong market.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are releasing April 4, whereas the Switch version is arriving July 25.
