The much discussed wait for Harry Kane for an important first trophy could finally come to an end in a matter of weeks, although his move to Bayern Munich almost two years ago has been worth more than one sense, according to the striker.
The advantage of six Bayern points on the top of the Bundesliga with seven games to travel converts them into the great favorites to win the title, delivering a piece of cutlery that would eliminate the asterisk that many have attributed to their reputation as the best scorer of their generation. However, at 31, the search for cutlery does not define its approach to the game.
“I know that there is a lot of talk about the trophies and if I finish with a trophy or 20 trophies, I do not think my mentality changed,” Kane said in an exclusive interview with CBS Sports Galazo Network. “Every day, when I wake up, it is the best person, to be the best teammate, the best player I can be and I feel that I am in the peak of my best moment at this time, so I want to play the highest player while I feel that way for the most possible time.”
Kane has long been the best scorer of his generation, so his ability to translate his strong way into the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur to Bundesliga is a surprise. He has 33 goals in 38 games in all competitions for Bayern this season, which might seem the same thing in some way, but Kane believes that his transfer of 2023 has allowed him to improve as a player, especially as regards the competition for the titles. The trophy pursuit this season also includes the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Inter in the quarterfinals of this month, since they point to a place in the final of May 31 in its local stadium.
“Just competing at the highest level, in the biggest games consistently it is probably what separates you from others,” Kane said. “I had spells in Tottenham where I had this, where we [were] Challenging at the highest level, but then there were years in which they were not, so I think that doing it year after year and putting yourself against the best, the best teams, the best defenders, and still being able to show a consistent game, I think it has been the most pleasant. “
Kane also said that Vincent Kompany, who is in the middle of his first season as Bayern’s manager, has played a role in helping him improve his game.
“I think he has impressed me a lot as a tactical coach, first of all,” Kane said. “I think that the way we are playing this season with the high press, with the pressure of man to man almost and then also with the ball, with a lot of possession of the ball, a lot of intensity, a lot of background is an excellent way of playing, a really attacker.
“I think he has always been known as a great leader every time he has played and I think he has taken him to his role as coach. It doesn’t matter who you are in this team, if you played 500 games or played your first game, it will treat you the same. It will tell you what you are doing well, what you are doing badly and I think the players respect that. [You’re] Trying to improve throughout his career and I think I have improved in the time we have already worked together and has added small bits to my game and that is all you can ask, so I’m really enjoying working with him. “
