Wiegman has previously been criticized for her selection choices, often opting for experienced players and familiar starting elevens.
But she made 10 changes in the win over Switzerland, allowing senior debuts for Mace and Laura Blindkilde Brown, as well as first starts for Millie Turner and Aggie Beever-Jones.
He was asked about several people’s performances at his post-game press conference and tried to avoid singling out individuals, insisting on praising Jess Park when asked to talk about Clinton’s performance.
“Believe [Clinton’s] getting better,” Wiegman added. “She had to do a couple things too. He had a good game, he has had more good games.
“The next step is to get into the team more often and get consistency. I’m very happy with her. You can really see that she is developing.
“But I also thought Jess Park made the difference today.”
Manchester United manager Skinner said in November he had no doubt Clinton would “put himself in the best possible position” for England’s regular squad, but he was cautious and did not rush his international development.
There is competition for places, with regular starters Keira Walsh and Georgia Stanway mainstays in Wiegman’s team, while Park and injured midfielder Ella Toone are strong No 10 options.
Leicester’s Mace also felt at home in a holding midfield role against Switzerland, boosting Wiegman’s options.
“You know how we are in England, we recognize talent, we put it on a pedestal and then we say ‘that’s it,’ and we try to tear it down,” Skinner said in November.
“[Clinton] Play it fun and that’s my job, to keep Grace in that space. “When she is in that space she will do everything she can to be selected by England.”
England will find out their Euro 2025 group stage rival when the draw takes place in Switzerland on December 16.
Before Euro 2025, they will face another Women’s Nations League campaign, where they will face world champions Spain, as well as Belgium and Portugal.
“When you’re in these competitions and you’re playing every three or four days, physicality is a big thing,” said former England captain Steph Houghton.
“What I see in Grace Clinton is that ability to go back, defend and be present in the box. Now, she is adding goals to her game.
“She has had no experience, but over the next six months it is crucial that Sarina gives her the opportunity to get that position.”
