GameSpot staff suffer another round of job cuts

Fandom-owned media outlet GameSpot has begun an alternating round of layoffs lately.

Although it was not officially shown, Vast Bomb recently announced online that it will “continue browsing today’s streams” and will resume the next day. Hours later, stories about layoffs began to circulate.

“I just got fired from GameSpot,” said host and senior maker Dave Klein on X/Twitter.

“If anyone is looking for a video producer/senior producer, I’ve got it. I’ve also been working on a game for the last two years and can program in C# and Unity, as well as design games.”

When asked by an interested respondent what had happened, Klein wrote: “Just a mass layoff. I’m not the only one affected by this.”

“Hey, if you need someone who can write/edit/manage/work with videos/work with marketing and branding/work with social media/work with SEO/do any of the other 20 thousand things I did at Fandom and GameSpot, I’ll tell you.” “I’m here,” added senior writer Chris Hayner.

“Another round of layoffs at Fandom,” said senior fabricator Jake Dekker.

“I’m fine, but a lot of people aren’t. I think this is the FOURTH round of layoffs we’ve had since they acquired GameSpot in 2022. This industry sucks, man.”

It’s unclear if Fandom has also been affected or how much of the population has been laid off in this generation. GameIndustry.biz has been approached for comment.

Those layoffs come in the wake of layoffs announced again in January 2023, and next again in January 2024. The above cuts also clash with GameSpot’s online sister website, Vast Bomb.
