“I don’t think the referee knew what to do. The linesman didn’t help him and made a human error. I think he said it went into the side of the net, but clearly it’s a goal.
“If we had lost 2-1, there would have been a little more talk, but it wouldn’t have hurt it as an excuse: we would have lost the game because of the way we defended during the first minutes.”
Peterborough currently sit 13th in League One, but their total goals of 26 are the highest in the division.
And they soon ran into delays at Rodney Parade as Anthony Glennon and Kai Whitmore put Newport in front.
“I would hate to be a goalie on this team that month,” Ferguson said.
“But what I do know is that they’ve given us goals and we’re just going to have to outperform teams, simple as that. Until we have the ability to have a much better approach.” [at the back] in video games, that’s how it’s becoming.”
Goals from Abraham Odoh, Joel Randall and two from Ricky-Jade Jones finally earned Posh a draw in the second round against another League Two side, Notts County.
But before that, they have an EFL Trophy match against Crystal Palace Under-21s on Tuesday before the first county derby of this season against Cambridge United at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday.
Odoh’s goal was his first since joining Peterborough from Harrogate Town in the summer and he said: “Clearly we started the game slowly but we know we can build attacking supremacy.
“It’s always good to contribute and I feel like I helped the team get that win.”
