Euro 2025 play-off: Scotland-Finland – Erin Cuthbert watches the final

Many team members believe they should already have major tournament experience on their resume.

Two years ago, they had a taste of the 2023 World Cup, but lost in agonizing fashion with a poor performance in the play-off at home to the Republic of Ireland.

A couple of years before that, their hopes of winning Euro 2022 ended after a lackluster qualifying campaign, with Friday’s rival Finland dealing the fatal blow.

That means revenge could be in the air at Easter Road, the same venue where that painful 1-0 defeat took place almost four years ago.

Marko Saloranta’s team “is not an idiot”, according to Cuthbert.

“They’re an awesome team,” he said. “They haven’t reached the four-out-of-five Euro semi-finals for nothing, but I think the group is in a good position to handle it.”

There has been calm and confidence in the Scotland camp this week.

An unbeaten Nations League B campaign and a particularly impressive second leg win against Hungary means they fear no one.

Not even Finland.

“We’re in a position where we certainly feel confident, but we have to go out and earn it,” Cuthbert added. “We have to earn the right to play, earn the right to be in the European Championship.

“I don’t care if it’s Finland or Hungary, I don’t care which nation, I just want to beat them and go through.”
