Euro 2025: “It would be huge” – Wales aims for history after beating Slovakia

The Republic of Ireland drew a convincing combined 9-0 victory over Georgia to maintain their playing field in the play-off final.

And although they will have to take a more serious look at Slovakia, former Wales striker Helen Ward believes Wales will also be confident of achieving the double header.

“It’s going to be a much tougher task against the Republic of Ireland,” he said on BBC Radio Wales.

“You would expect them to come with a game plan, but it is certainly a game that Wales will look at and think they can win.

“They gave us a back-and-forth record against them over time, we won more and of course that game before this future where we beat them was a superior performance.

“If we perform the way we did, we have a good chance.”

New manager Wilkinson watched from the stands as Wales beat Ireland 2-0 in Dublin in an enjoyable February game.

But former Wales full-back Kath Morgan expects Wilkinson’s side to be much more at the base of defense in the upcoming clashes with Ireland.

“When we beat the Republic of Ireland, who were not his first team, November will be completely different,” Morgan warned Radio Cymru.

“We’re not used to playing teams above us since Gemma Grainger was in charge.

“We may be the group sitting inside the low cap in November, trying to dig in as a unit and that’s probably something we’re not as used to anymore.”
