Early Access Trailer for the Cel Shaded Roguelike Ravenswatch

The Dead Curse The early access trailer for the upcoming cel-shaded roguelike Ravenswatch has been released by the Gods developer.

An announcement trailer for the early access of the upcoming cel-shaded roguelike Ravenswatch has been released by French video game publisher Nacon. The game’s creator, Passtech, is best known for the roguelike Curse of the Dead Gods, which both fans and critics have likened to Hades.

The Sinking City was allegedly pirated and distributed by Nacon in the 2021 dispute with Ukrainian studio Frogwares, which caused the game to be unavailable for some players for a considerable amount of time. Nacon has an eclectic publishing history. Usually, Nacon concentrates on AA games like Steelrising, which was created by Spiders. Prior to this, Focus Entertainment, the studio that had previously released Curse of the Dead Gods by Passtech, published almost all of Spiders’ games.

Fans of Curse of the Dead Gods might recognize the gameplay and visual aesthetic in Nacon’s early-access trailer for Ravenswatch. Instead of having players explore dungeons with a Lovecraftian theme of curses and horror as they did in Curse of the Dead Gods, Ravenswatch looks to add a folklore and fairytale twist. Red Riding Hood, the Pied Piper, Beowulf, the Snow Queen, and other playable characters are shown in the trailer. They all appear to have different play styles. The early access period will start on April 6, according to the trailer.

The trailer also teases additional gameplay at the upcoming Nacom Connect event, which will take place on March 9, for fans who cannot wait that long. Additionally, Nacom Connect will provide more updates on the development of RoboCop and Gollum. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has a long history of delays. Originally scheduled to launch in 2021 when Daedalic Entertainment first made the announcement in March 2019, the game was moved to 2022 after Nacon acquired Daedalic. The developers disclosed a further delay of “a few months” on July 25, 2022. After missing the scheduled 2022 release dates, Nacon revealed months later that Gollum is now anticipated for a spring or summer release in 2019. Fans are obviously eager for any information about the release of Gollum.

Since most of Daedlic Entertainment’s prior games were point-and-click adventures or similarly narrative-focused games like State of Mind and Silence, Gollum represents a significant stylistic departure for the developer and is probably the main reason for the delays. With Curse of the Dead Gods, Passtech’s studio already demonstrated its prowess in the roguelike genre, so Ravenswatch should continue to go smoothly. The biggest obstacle for Passtech might be differentiating itself from the vast number of other excellent roguelikes, such as Hades 2, which is anticipated for a similar release window.

Ravenswatch will enter early access on April 6 on Steam.
