Founded in 1872, Dumbarton is one of Scotland’s oldest football clubs and enjoyed success in the top flight in the late 19th century.

In recent generations, they have frequented the country’s lower leagues and achieved promotion through the play-offs last season.

Following Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Queen of the South, the Sons finished eighth, one point above Annan Athletic. Stephen Farrell’s team visit Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

Quantuma chief executive Ian Wright said in a statement: “The club’s directors were left with no option but to appoint administrators, after not receiving the significant funds owed to the club from the sale of the development land in 2021.

“As administrators, we will investigate the circumstances surrounding this transaction and other matters affecting the club but will not be in a position to comment further at this time.

“Our immediate priority is to ensure the club can complete its matches and we will meet with key stakeholders to ensure this can be achieved.

“We understand this will be a shock to fans, staff and the local community.

“The club employs 18 players, six football staff and three club staff, whose roles are secured as we work through the early stages of evaluating the options available to the club. We would invite any interested parties to come forward.” .
