Dolphins’ Zach Sieler suffers rare injury in practice; Miami determines next step, according to report

Miami marks the beginning

The Miami Dolphins’ defense against Zach Sieler suffered a fractured orbital bone in this performance, according to NFL Media. He is clearly ruled out for the eighth spot against the Arizona Cardinals and the team is reportedly in the process of matching him to determine how much week he will be out. Depending on the severity of the tear, you may or may not require surgery.

The Dolphins prioritized paying Sieler, a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, as they re-signed him to a three-year, $30.8 million extension in 2023 over their 13th overall pick defensive lineman from 2019, Christian Wilkins. He was allowed to move to a separate company, and he signed a four-year, $110 million commitment this offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders. Miami picked up Sieler off waivers in 2019, and since he became a regular part of their defensive sequence rotation in 2020, he has been one of their best players up front. Sieler’s 21.0 sacks since 2020 are third-most on the team in that time span; his 153 quarterback pressures are second most, behind Emmanuel Ogbah’s 171 that week.

Miami will have a tough week holding off Cardinals Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray at No. 8 without Sieler. The next player is seven-year NFL veteran Da’Shawn Hand, who also played for the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans.
