The former Green Bay Packers teammates are very happy to reunite, and Adams announced that the Jets disagreed. 1 pick below, he asked a Las Vegas Raiders industry the next two seasons.
“It’s been a roller coaster, for sure,” said Adams, who will make his Jets debut Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. “It’s strange to say I’m happy, but obviously it was time for a change.
“This whole thing was kind of a little strange, but at the end of the event, we’re on a bigger playing field. I think the Raiders are on a bigger playing field, too, and everyone can move forward more or less.”
Adams was traded Tuesday for a conditional 2025 third-round pick. He arrived at the Jets facility Tuesday morning and will stay at Rodgers’ house until he gets settled. They’ve already seen film of themselves from a decade ago, and Rodgers is helping Adams with the playbook and updating him on his elaborate hand-signal system.
“Clearly, having him as my quarterback once again, he’s part of why I am who I am and why I became the participant that I am,” Adams said of Rodgers, his quarterback from 2014 to 2021.
The Jets (2-4), losers of three straight, acquired Adams in a trade because they felt the offense needed another perimeter playmaker. They believe it will balance the offense and create fewer double teams for Garrett Wilson. It is also likely to mean a reduced role for Mike Williams, whose future appears uncertain.
Williams did not practice Wednesday for personal reasons, according to the team’s injury report. Earlier in the day, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich did not mention Williams’ absence. Rodgers criticized Williams after Monday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, saying the veteran receiver “wasn’t in the right spot” on a game-clinching interception with two minutes left.
Adams, 31, said he wants to be more than an 11-game rental, indicating he would like to remain with the Jets beyond 2024.
“It’s cruel, I hope so. That’s the plan,” Adams said. “I’m sorry, I want to be here. I never go somewhere hoping to find a pristine house, because that’s the hope.”
Adams is signed through 2026, but his salaries in 2025 and 2026 ($35.6 million each year) are prohibitive and not guaranteed. It means he would have to renegotiate his contract to avoid being a salary cap casualty after the season.
For now, the focus is on learning the playbook so he can have a prominent role against the Steelers.
“I hope to be on a similar website,” Rodgers said. “I hope we click. He’s been away for a couple of weeks with a [hamstring] Surprise and we haven’t performed together since 2021, but now we have a dozen memories to mention. “He has an unlikely recovery.”
Communication on the field is important for Rodgers, who demands a high standard from his receivers. He has struggled to develop chemistry with Williams (10 receptions for 145 yards), which might explain why he criticized Williams after the last game.
Rodgers had some connection issues with Wilson earlier in the season, but they appear to have overcome those with 20 receptions in the last two games. The Jets also have Allen Lazard, another ex-Packer who has a team-high five touchdown receptions.
Suddenly, the Jets have a lot of mouths to feed.
“It’s actually a cool condition,” Ulbrich said. “It will give us a chance to have more flexibility in advancing those guys. Sometimes it will be totally based on field concepts, sometimes it will be totally based on matchups, but it gives us a dozen democracy to play with.” around the place those guys design [up]”.
Added Rodgers: “It’s about having success. Guys are moving to get their thing. The notable factor is success.”
Rodgers said players like Wilson and running back Breece Hall “will have to feel free” with Adams’ presence because he believes the six-time Pro Bowl receiver will create opportunities for those around him.
Adams said his goal is to make an impact every time he’s on the field. In Las Vegas, I didn’t feel like that was the case.
“[People] I see a demand from the industry because they just think, ‘He wants to leave, he’s quitting the job,’ when it’s more about being able to feel like I can do it, I don’t want that feeling of helplessness. … Not every game is going to be 100 yards or 150, 200 yards, but I want to feel like I can impact the game every time I hit the farmland in the future.”
