In 2022, Sammy replaced Andy Flower as head coach and led them to the Playoffs, where the Kings lost to the eventual champions Jamaica Tallawahs.
In the PSL, Sammy had coached Peshawar Zalmi in 2020 and 2021 before being reappointed to the position for PSL 2023. Sammy had been a pillar of the franchise since the creation of the PSL in 2016, and had been one of the foreign figures most popular in the league.
