KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wide receiver Hollywood Brown practiced Friday for the first time with the Kansas City Chiefs since an injury in August kept him out of their lineup.
Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury after being tackled on the Chiefs’ first preseason play in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve, but the Chiefs remained hopeful he would return at some point this season.
He was listed as a limited participant in Friday’s practice and ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Kansas City has a three-week window to activate Brown from injured reserve. While he won’t play against the Browns, he could return as early as the Week 16 game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.
“He won’t play this week,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday. “But it’s good to have him back out there and going. He did a really good job today. You can tell he’s been working. The conditioning part wasn’t a problem. He took quite a few reps.”
Brown was the Chiefs’ big addition as a free agent this year. Kansas City was counting on Brown and first-round pick Xavier Worthy to help boost its passing game.
Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ top receiver, injured his knee in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers and will be out for the rest of the season. Worthy leads Chiefs wide receivers with 38 receptions for 448 yards and four touchdowns.
