The Kansas Town Chiefs landed RB Joshua Uche on a field with the England Patriots unused on Monday.
The Patriots earned a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.
The Chiefs placed tight end Jody Fortson (knee) on injured insurance on a corresponding trip.
Uche was a healthy scratch for the Patriots’ 25-22 victory over the unused York Jets amid trade interest for the fifth-year outside linebacker.
Uche, 26, has two sacks in six games this season and 20.5 sacks in his career.
Uche re-signed with the Patriots as a sovereign agent before the season with a one-year, $3 million guarantee. He will be an unrestricted sovereign agent this season.
It’s the second industry splash made by the Chiefs (7-0), who acquired big receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a deal with the Tennessee Titans on the final day.
On Sunday, the Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20 and got five sacks from five other players.
Uche joins a strong defense that ranks 2nd in the NFL.
“That’s going to be a good addition going forward, too,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday.
The Chiefs lately have George Karlaftis, Mike Danna and Felix Anudike-Uzomah as their top defensive ends. They also expect Charles Omenihu to return next season. He tore his ACL in last year’s AFC Sports Championship.
The Patriots decided on Uche in the second round of the 2020 draft out of the University of Michigan.
