EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Los Angeles Chargers outside linebacker Joey Bosa, who has been sidelined due to a surprise since Moment 3, said Friday that he expected to play games in a limited role in Sunday’s game against the Pristine Orleans Saints.
Bosa, who has been diagnosed with hip shock, said he has pressure in his buttocks that affected his sciatic nerve and caused “some of the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.”
Bosa said he began to feel discomfort in the days leading up to the Chargers’ Moment 3 game against the Steelers, and at the first snap, his leg gave way, when he was pushed into the dirt during the Steelers’ matchup against Broderick. Jones.
“I definitely didn’t expect it to be as bad as it has been,” Bosa said. “And then it just kept dragging and dragging. Here we are five weeks later, or however long it’s been, so it was tough.”
Bosa was also limited in the Chargers’ Moment 2 game against the Carolina Panthers due to a back shock. He played only 14 snaps, but said it wasn’t related to glute pressure.
In his only healthy game of the season, Bosa ruled in Moment 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders, completing seven tackles, a forced fumble, a sack and four quarterback pressures.
“He’s that player,” schoolteacher Jim Harbaugh said before the sport. “I saw it in the production, in the tackling, in the hustle. He was great against the run and unblockable in the pass; great game.”
Bosa’s ability has never been questioned, but injuries have saved him from appearing on the floor regularly. He played just 14 games combined in the 2022 and 2023 seasons and played 16 snaps from Moment 1 this season.
He also missed three weeks of offseason practice after breaking his left hand in a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams on August 4. Bosa underwent surgery and practiced with a club after the upset.
After breaking his hand, Bosa said he hoped the shock worm was behind him, and lacking any other shock, this generation put him in a “dark place.”
“I feel like I’ve been letting my team down by missing these games,” he said. “Letting everyone down, letting the coaches down. Letting the organization down. Letting myself down and it just sucks how these years have gone, the last few years.”
“I definitely hit a low point dealing with this, but it made me mentally stronger,” Bosa said. “When you’re in this, sometimes you feel desperate and you’re like, ‘Man, I don’t want to do this.'”
Bosa said Generation, along with his network and therapist, saved him from the day he rehabbed, and he hopes to get back to a full workload next game this weekend and put together some more standout seasons.
“I think I have a few years left, maybe, hopefully, a few good years, and I just want to do everything I can to take advantage of my opportunity,” Bosa said.
