Chargers activate WR DJ Chark Jr. from injured reserve

Chark is formally listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.

The team placed Chark on IR before Year 1 with a hip shock. The Chargers opened the 21-day window to take Chark off IR on Oct. 16, but a detached groin kept Chark from being activated off IR until Saturday.

Chark said the month off in rehab helped him change his perspective on his goals for the season, from personal accomplishments to the team’s fortunes.

“I’m not trying to jump in and put up crazy numbers,” Chark told ESPN. “Having time to sit and watch the guys, you realize how unselfish they are and how important it is to win.”

The Chargers signed Chark in May, including a veteran of one of the greenest receiving teams in the league. Chark is the only Chargers receiver to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season, when he did so with Jacksonville in 2019.

Chark emerged as one of the Chargers’ top targets during training camp and was projected as a starter.

Accidents had been a theme for Chark lately. In the last five seasons, he has played only 54 of a possible 82 games.

Chark, 27, a second-round pick of the Jaguars in 2018, has 212 receptions for 3,069 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career.

In a corresponding trip, the Chargers sidelined rookie receiver Brenden Rice (shoulder) due to injury accumulation.
