Call of Duty will get a new AI-powered voice chat moderation system

Activision is now testing a new voice chat moderation system powered by AI for Call of Duty games.

The developer has begun a beta test for the moderation technology inside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone in North America.

The system will be made available worldwide in time for Modern Warfare 3’s November release.

“Call of Duty’s new voice chat moderation system employs ToxMod, Modulate’s AI-powered voice chat moderation technology, to identify and enforce against toxic speech—including hate speech, discriminatory language, harassment, and more, in real-time.”” Activision said in a blog post.

“This new development will support the ongoing moderation systems led by the Call of Duty anti-toxicity team, which includes text-based filtering across 14 languages for in-game text (chat and usernames) as well as an effective in-game player reporting system,” according to the press release.

Activision claims that over one million Call of Duty accounts have had their voice and/or text chat privileges restricted since the release of Modern Warfare 2 in October.

According to the report, 20% of players did not commit a new offense after receiving a first warning; those who did receive temporary account restrictions and voice and text chat bans as punishments.

Activision intends to reveal Modern Warfare 3‘s multiplayer offering at the next Call of Duty showcase, which will take place on the 5th of October.

The following day will mark the start of the first of two Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer beta weekends, which will only be accessible on PS4 and PS5.

The game will include updated versions of all 16 launch maps from Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. A selection of these, as well as new Ground War experiences, will be included in the multiplayer beta.

Modern Warfare 3 is a direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. It will be released on November 10, 2010. Sledgehammer Games is in charge of development in collaboration with Infinity Ward, while Treyarch is in charge of the Zombies mode.
