Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was shot twice while leaving one end of a Denver-area strip club Friday morning, according to Denver’s NBC partner 9News.
The incident occurred around 3am on Friday, October 18. At that point, some calls were made to 911 by patients who said they had been shot, according to court documents. One of those affected was Reynolds, who was shot in the left arm and behind the head. Another man was shot in the back and a third patient was injured by broken glass. The three victims suffered scratches while scaling a fence in an attempt to escape the shooters.
The Broncos issued a statement Thursday afternoon that showed the inside track of Reynolds being the victim of a shooting. In the comment, the group stated that Reynolds has “received treatment for minor injuries.”
“Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities,” the comment mentions.
Denver police arrested two men in the case, Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza.
Prior to the shooting, the victims reported that they were at Shotgun Willies, a local strip club. The patients left around 2:45 a.m., and Mendoza, who had entered the club around the evening, followed them, according to a video from the club. The documents said that the people from Mendoza had no interaction with those affected in the club; patients said there were things wrong during that event.
Three cars, including a person who was pushed by Mendoza, were noticeable following the victim’s car as it left the parking lot, documents state. Two drivers began shooting at the victim’s car, and the drivers persisted in coaching the victims while taking them to the freeway.
Once on the highway, those affected were forced to lower the vehicle because they could no longer force it. Police soon located the victim’s vehicle, which had several bullet defects. Two fired bullet casings were found in the rear of the vehicle.
Charlesworth, according to court documents, told investigators who were about to be arrested that he was “helping” a friend who had asked him to train patients because of a previous war. Charlesworth denied shooting the victims and mentioned that the shots came from other vehicles. He refused to explain what the cars were.
Reynolds, 29, is an eight-year NFL veteran who is in his first season with the Broncos. He is recently awaiting injury and will undergo surgical treatment on a damaged finger.
