He has also promised to donate $ 1 million to the program, the school announced Monday.
Young, four times there of the NBA, was an All-American for Oklahoma in 2017-18, its only season with the Sooners. He became the first player in the history of Division I of the NCAA in leading the nation at points per game (27.4) and assists per game (8.7). He was recruited No. 5 in general.
Norman North High School, 26, has used his love for the city in his sleeve for years.
“As someone who grew up in Norman and played at the University of Oklahoma, assuming the role of GM Assistant for OU Basketball is a great honor,” said Young in a statement. “This program has such a rich story, of which I am lucky to have been and remain part. In my new role, my approach is to help contribute to OU’s winning culture, work together with the coaching staff and the main office to bring the right players to help us compete and succeed at the highest level.”
Young will help with the evaluation of high school perspectives and the transfer portal, help negotiate players contracts and guide players to build their brands.
“Bring is the son of Norman, Oklahoma, and has given our city a lot,” said Oklahoma director Joe Castiglione. “It has a strong affinity for this place and its commitment to ensure that our community is prosperous is really unmatched. It is also an OU legend that, in its time here and since then, continues to reach excellence both on and off the court.”
Young joins the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry guard to assume an administrative role in his Alma Mater in this new era of university sports. Curry was appointed GM Assistant in Davidson earlier this month.
