Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé won the Gerd Müller Ballon d’Or Trophy for scoring the most goals in Europe, even though Real Madrid striker Mbappé did not attend the ceremony in Paris.
England captain Kane, who joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham last summer, scored 44 goals in 45 competitive games in his first season with the German club.
Mbappé scored 44 goals in 48 appearances in his final season with Paris St-Germain.
The French forward was no longer at the rite at the Theater du Chatelet in Paris along with the remains of his representatives at Real Madrid.
According to AFP and other Spanish media, Real Madrid prohibited waiting for the nearest audience to find out that Vinicius Yongster would not win the men’s award.
The EU champions informed AFP that their delegation will not advance “where it is not respected” closer to knowing that Vinicius, favorite to win the award, will not be chosen as the best men’s player of the tournament.
“Thank you to my club, Bayern Munich, all my staff and my teammates, for helping me score all the goals I scored,” Kane said.
“It is an honor to receive this award from a club legend. [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge]. It was a new chapter for me. Going to Germany, taking my family was a new experience, I didn’t know what to expect.
“To start from the beginning I did, thanks to my teammates. I continued the journey and we had a good season.”
When ceremony co-host Didier Drogba asked Kane what area of his game he would like to improve on, the England captain replied: “My pace. Even assuming the month is catching up to me.”
