Australia News: Matthew Wade retires from international cricket and quickly moves into coaching

Wade was part of Australia’s squad in the International T20 Cup in June and it was expected that event would mark the end of his global career as he was overtaken for the UK tour in September. By March, he had retired from red-ball cricket in Tasmania’s next run to the Sheffield Preserve final.

“I was fully aware that my international days would probably end at the end of the last T20 World Cup. My international retirement and my training have been a constant conversation with George [Bailey] and andrew [McDonald] in the last six months,” Wade said.

“Coaching has been on my radar for the past few years and fortunately I have been presented with some great opportunities, which I am very grateful and excited for.”

Wade’s Test career reached 2021, during the Republic’s previous tour of India, having made a successful return to the team as a representative batsman for the 2019 Ashes, where he scored two centuries.
