Argos questions ‘mass cancellation’ of 30th annual PS5 UK pre-orders, say some buyers

UPDATE 08.23: Argos has shown that “some” orders for the 30th annual version of the PlayStation 5 were prohibited and announced that affected purchases had been “incorrectly processed.”

“We saw high demand for the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition console and unfortunately had to cancel some orders after they were processed incorrectly,” the store explained in a comment provided to Eurogamer.

Hour Argos has not specified the selection of orders affected by the cancellations, adding: “We have contacted affected customers to tell them how sorry we are for the disappointment this has caused and confirm that they will receive a full refund.”


ORIGINAL STORY 3:58 p.m.: Hesitancy has increased for buyers of the 30th annual PS5 release who were told their orders were banned through Argos.

As shared via IGN’s Do Business in UK account on X recently, some shoppers received emails announcing that Argos was “very sorry to inform you” that the store “was unable to meet [their] PS5 30th Anniversary Edition Pre-Order.”

Adding to the doubt, some shoppers who contacted Argos buyer help were told the emails were sent “in error”, and several received assurances from the store that their orders had “not been cancelled.” ” and that they had still been scheduled to be delivered at the end of November.

But in the same generation, alternative buyers were informed that “all cancellations are correct”, and Argos apologized for “any inconvenience caused”.

While it is unclear how many shoppers were affected, an Argos consultant informed one shopper that “as this is a mass cancellation, some orders are taking a while to be updated to cancelled. Refunds are being processed as we speak.”

“The annoying thing is that we lost the opportunity to buy somewhere else thinking that our orders were confirmed,” commented one dissatisfied customer.

“You shouldn’t have to pre-order at multiple stores to have a chance of getting something in case of cancellations.”

While Argos representatives are communicating with affected shoppers on social media, wider family comments about outright cancellations have been rejected. We have contacted Argos for proper affirmation and further explanation regarding the condition.

A generation after Eurogamer’s previous report, GAME consumers say they can still download games they paid to pre-order, without the ability to ban those online orders.
