Aloy actor reacts to AI-powered leak: ‘I am worried for this art form’

Aloy Ashly Burch actor has said that he is worried about the future of video games as an art form, after the release of a video that seemed to be a version generated by the AI of the Burch character.

This week, a video arose that seemed to be a double acting of AI of Aloy, the Burch character of the Horizon series. The video, which was apparently not intended for public consumption, caused an online stir, especially in the light of the current SAG-Affra attack against this AI performance style.

Now, Aloy’s original actor Ashly Burch has said that, although developer Gurreilla Games approached and assured him that this video did not reflect anything that was currently working, she is worried about the future of the industry.

“I wanted to talk about Ai Alay,” Burch said in a video posted on his Tiktok account.

“I saw the tech demo Earlier This Week. Guerrillas approached to let me know that the demonstration did not reflect anything that was actively in development. They did not use any of my performance for demonstration, none of my facial or voice data. Guerrillas has Aloy as a character. “

“I feel worried and I am not worried about guerrillas or Horizon or my performance or my career specifically, I even feel worried about this form of art, the game‘s performance.

“We are currently on strike. SAG-AFTRA is currently on strike against video games due to AI, because this technology exists, and because we know that game companies want to use it. We are asking for protections. “

SAG-AFTRA currently offers provisional agreements between actors and employers, who are examined by the union and, if approved, allow them to play the role while the strike action is ongoing.

“I feel worried not because technology exists, even because playgrounds want to use it, because, of course, they want to use technological advances, I imagine that a video like this comes out, that has the performance of someone attached to him, who has someone’s voice or movement, and the possibility that if we lose this fight he will have more resources.”

In February, Bungie confirmed that part of the dialogue in its newly released Destiny 2: Heresy Content is missing due to the strike.

“Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, it may notice that certain voice lines are silent in the game,” the study warned. “However, we have enabled the subtitles by default for this version to ensure that players do not miss any narrative content.”
