Alan Wake 2 Update Addresses PS5 Pro Issues, Allows Players to Disable PSSR Enhancement

0

Remedy has released an update for Alan Wake 2 that allows players to disable one of the key features of the PS5 Pro, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

PSSR is an AI-powered enhancement technology designed to “provide super-sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail,” according to Sony.

However, not all developers have been able to take advantage of it as planned since the console’s launch last month, and some have recently started allowing players to turn it off entirely.

Last week, Ubisoft gave Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora players the option to turn off PSSR, which returns the game to the “same enhancement technology” offered by the base PS5.

And a new Alan Wake 2 update released Monday does the same. While the patch includes several fixes across all platforms, Remedy said it is primarily focused on improving game performance on PS5 Pro.

Alan Wake 2 Update 1.2.7 Patch Notes

Improvements and additions

  • [PS5 Pro] Added a new “balanced” graphics mode. This mode requires compatible displays that can reach a 120Hz refresh rate. Balanced mode combines the PS5 Pro Quality mode settings, including ray tracing, with the Performance mode resolution. This mode targets 40 fps.
  • [PS5 Pro] Slightly adjusted Performance mode visual settings for a more consistent frame rate.
  • [PS5 Pro] Quality and Balance Mode: Raytracing settings adjusted for a less noisy image.
  • [PS5 Pro] Added an option to turn PSSR (PlayStation Super Spectral Resolution) on or off.

Corrections

  • [The Lake House] Fixed handwritten collectibles displaying the wrong page in Saga’s Mind Place.
  • [The Lake House] Fixed missing audio from the “Welcome to Lake House” collectible video.
  • Minor fixes and optimizations.

Other PS5 Pro enhanced games that will face issues following the console’s launch include Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
