A new global spectacle formally joined the women’s football calendar on August 15, when the first real version of the Concacaf Champions Cup W began.

The tournament is inspired by men’s sport and is designed to capitalize on the growing attention and funding within women’s sport around the world. The Concacaf Champions Cup W allows NWSL teams to face alternative governing teams in the northern United States, although the winger may have a higher level to play while facing US-based teams . The tournament will also serve as a qualification match for the inaugural FIFA International Women’s Club Cup, which will contain 16 teams and is scheduled to be played in January and February 2026.

Three NWSL teams are participating in the first version of the contest: reigning champions NJ/NY Gotham FC, 2023 cover winners San Diego Tide, and NWSL cover runners-up Portland Thorns. 11 total teams across the northern United States are participating, including 3 from Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil. Two teams will compete for a place at the team level, where a total of 10 teams will be divided into two groups.

The public level will play matches this fall, with the two governing teams from each team advancing to the semifinals. The semi-finals and general can be single eliminators that will accelerate the position next spring in a place yet to be determined, as well as third place.

You will be able to follow all the action around CBS Sports platforms, including CBS Sports Network, Paramount+ and CBS Sports Golazo Network.
