A new NES game is being developed by former members of Elite Beat Agents studio iNiS

A new game of the Nintendo entertainment system is currently developing, with members of Elite Beat Agents Studio Inis among the team that works on it.

Banana Bash is a game of action puzzles starring a monkey called Ooki that has to recover her stolen bananas from a group of crabs.

The game will be built on a 4 megabit cartridge, which makes it one of the largest nes games, and is inspired by single -screen action games such as Bubble Bobble and Snow Bros.

The game is being developed by Work3 Studio, a small team composed of development veterans, led by Brian Flanagan.

Flanagan – which has been developing since 1989 and whose credits include Domination Godzilla, Dodonpachi Saidaiouju Exa Seal and the GBA version of Street Fighter Alpha 3, is in charge of the direction, graphics, music and design of the game.

He is accompanied by Robbie Dieterich, a former Inis developer who worked in Ouendan 2, Beat elite agents and Gitaroo Man Lives, and a developer simply accredited as ‘Jesse’, who has 14 years of experience in the development of mobile and games devices, after having previously worked with Glu Mobile.

Another former INIS programmer, who wants to remain in anonymity, is also contributing to “final and Polish programming” to “help push the banana party through the finish line.”

An early version of Banana Bash won the best gameplay in the Magfest Indie Retro Showcase, and presents a “sound effects system matched by rhythm”, in which every action that the player takes harmonizes with background music.

“Banana Bash has caused intense discussions in retro games due to its unexpectedly rich colors and advanced graphic techniques,” says the study. “Some enthusiasts even speculated that it was designed for the Super Nintendo, but these impressive images were completely achieved in the NES through careful programming and a meticulous art of pixels.”

A Kickstarter for Banana Bash will be launched around June 2025, with those interested in their registration now to be notified. Although the game “will be 100% complete and fully functional in the real NES hardware” before the Kickstarter is launched, Work3 wants to raise funds to produce “high quality cartridges, boxes and manuals that will make Banana Bash a true collector gem.”
