One Elden Ring player makes an intriguing discovery about the runes they collect, deepening their connection to the game’s world.
Regarding all the runes they have been accumulating, an Elden Ring player has made an intriguing discovery. Many people may not give much thought to the relationship between runes and the rest of the world because they are the Elden Ring’s currency and are amassed in great quantities by the endgame, but they do have a connection to one of the most important areas of the Lands Between, and this connection may have been hinted at in some small way.
This philosophy has been implemented in FromSoftware’s most popular game, which may not come as much of a surprise given the attention to detail that the developer devotes to each of its games. Since the game’s release, users of Elden Ring have learned interesting things about how to interact with the environment and little details that the designers took special care to include in order to give this deteriorating world a more alive feeling.
A Reddit user going by the name of freetrolley42 recently uncovered a small, but intriguing detail about the runes players acquire through enemy defeat. He made an intriguing comparison between the currency and the Erdtree that sits at the center of Elden Ring’s map and narrative. They discovered that the icon for the runes and the inside of a tree branch have a remarkably similar shape, and freetrolley43 proposed that the runes are made of slices of the Erdtree’s branches.
Many users who left comments on the post have disputed this discovery. One of the most popular comments includes screenshots that point to the game’s wiki and imply that runes can be found in the eyes or, at the very least, come from the person carrying them. Another commenter claims that the Erdtree, whose function in Elden Ring is questionable because it is riddled with many mysteries even after the game is over, grants runes, which do indeed come from grace. This implies that despite their physical differences, there is a strong connection between the two.
Although it is unknown whether the relationship between runes and the Erdtree will be further explored in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the latter’s function does appear to be among the most obvious things mentioned in the game. Even so, many players enjoy picking apart even the smallest details in a game like Elden Ring, and the eagerness for new content will only heighten their desire to learn more.
Elden Ring is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
