2XKO fans will have to wait until February to hear what’s coming in Riot’s next fighting game.

The 2XKO team is on vacation, but they’ve left a little roadmap for those interested in learning more about the game before heading off to the office in search of sweets and drunken nights. In short, there will be an update on what’s to come in February and a chance for players to see for themselves in March.

This lines up with what we already know, that the next playtest will take place sometime in Spring 2025. Spring, for those who have forgotten, comprises the months of March, April, and May. This, in addition to the game being set for a vague 2025 release date, leads many to believe that this next playtest will take place in March or shortly after. Ben Forbes, the editor-in-chief of 2XKO, further narrowed down the timing of this “big beat” and said it would drop “probably in late March.”

What this means on the surface is that we will have to sit back for a few months and wait more. But let’s have fun, collect what we know, and speculate a little. Time is quickly running out until the final release date, although it remains a mystery.

We know that Jinx is coming to the game thanks to the gameplay trailer released during Arcane’s advertising season, so it’s not a far-fetched assumption to say that she will be playable in the upcoming playtest. In fact, developers have a history of announcing characters just so they can be played at the next possible opportunity. Yasuo was announced the day before Evo 2023, where players could try it out for themselves, and Braum was announced shortly before Evo 2024 and the first alpha lab test.

Further investigation reveals some more interesting data. Diaphone, a fighting game player and content creator, was one of the few influencers who traveled to the Riot Games offices to play Jinx early on and revealed that he was able to try out other characters that have not yet been announced. This is not unusual. A while ago, Riot brought a large number of streamers into the offices to test the pre-Evo 2023 version, where they were able to play with Yasuo and other characters like Braum, who were kept hidden from public view at the time.

From this, one could be hopeful that a new character will be revealed in February. This is by no means guaranteed, but when you consider that we only have a few months left until launch and the game only has seven officially announced characters (plus Katarina, who lives in this strange semi-confirmed area), there has to be some real momentum. if the game wants to reach that comfortable list of 10 characters.

Other things that could be revealed is a more specific release date/window, which would be nice. Personally, I’d bet that a launch window could be set for Fall 2025. On top of that, Evo 2025 is approaching soon. 2XKO has had a long-standing presence at the event and as such I wouldn’t be surprised if more information is hinted at on that topic.

So here we go, another period of radio silence until more concrete information comes out. What do you think they will reveal in February? Let us know below!
