Yes, Superman will feature the awesome best guy Krypto, and it’s all because of James Gunn’s rambunctious rescue dog.

The rumors are true: James Gunn’s Superman movie will feature Krypto the Superdog, and the explanation is honestly a little sweet.

It has been reported so far that Krypto, Superman’s super-powered dog, could appear in the new DCU follow-up movie, and the day before James Gunn showed it off himself on his private Twitter account. Turns out, Gunn really took advantage of his own month when it came time to introduce Krypto to the heavy show, explaining, “Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we followed for a while and then I started writing Superman. Ozu, who He came from a yard hoarding situation with 60 other dogs and never met humans, he was problematic to say the least.

“He immediately came in and destroyed our house, our shoes, our furniture; he even ate my laptop. It was a long time before he let us touch him. I remember thinking, ‘God, how hard would life be if Ozu had superpowers?’ and so Krypto came into the script and changed the shape of the story while Ozu was changing my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good Krypto than Adopt A Shelter Dog month. [By the way]Ozu today is, quite often, a very good boy.”

Gunn paired that with a short video showing David Corenswet’s Superman sitting with Krypto on the moon, looking down at Earth, parallel to a page from the comics Gunn accompanied the release with. This will mark the first time the super-powered pooch will appear in a live-action DC feature, just a few of the many things Gunns is clearly doing to shake things up a bit in the new DCU.

The DC Studios co-head also wanted to reassure fans today that all the side projects that haven’t had many updates haven’t been canned, so any of you in the market worried about that could continue to sicken.
