Gujarat Giants (GG) vs. Indians of Mumbai (MI)
Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, February 18, 2025, 7.30pm Ist
What to expect: GG seeks to break my jinx
The last time Mi and GG met, Harmanpreet Kaur broke 95 of 48 balls when my robbery and reserved a place in the playoffs at the last moment. That meant that I had a 4-0 record against GG so far.
But unlike the previous two seasons, GG has started WPL 2025 with a much stronger note. Although he took five attempts to win their first game in 2024, their first victory this time came in their second game, when they comfortably hit Warriorz (UPW). But ineffective death bowling are still a concern for GG. RCB took them to 79 races of the last 4.3 overs, while UPW broke 26 races of the last eight deliveries of their tickets. With the bat, the captain of GG, Ashleight Gardner, will seek more support from the higher order, since their first three counted only 22 races between them against UPW.
Meanwhile, my began this season with a nearby defeat against Delhi Capitals after three contentious decisions. My stuttered until 164 after Nat-Simbiver Brunt (80*) and Harmanpreet (42) had given them a burning beginning. Four of the best batters of the first seven of my fell into scores of a single figure, and the Mi will expect things to change against GG.
GG has played the same XI in both games so far after delivering four debuts in the first game against RCB. But Sayali satghare overs in those two games cost 64 races, and she only hit once. D Hemalatha, on the other hand, handled scores of only 4 and 0. Then GG will wait for them to be in shape before it arrives too late.
Gujarat giants (Probable): 1 Beth Mooney (WK), 2 Laura Wolvaardt, 3 d hemalatha, 4 Ashleight Gardner (Capt), 5 Harleen Deol, 6 Deandra Dottin, 7 Simran Shaikh, 8 Tanuja Kanwar, 9 Sayali Satghare, 10 Priya Mishra, ,,, 11 Kashvee Gautam
My has played only a lonely game so far this season, and it is unlikely to be scared even though their batters have a lower performance. But they will want Saika Ishaque, his second highest Wickt player in the WPL, put behind a disappointing exit against RCB, while leaked 43 races in three overs.
Mumbai Indians (Probable): 1 Hayley Matthews, 2 Yastika Bhatia (WK), 3 Nat Sciver-Brunt, 4 Harmanpreet Kaur (Capt), 5 Amelia Kerr, 6 S Sajana, 7 Amanjot Kaur, 8 Sanskriti Gupta, 9 Jintimani Kalita, 10 Shabnim Ismail, 11 Saika Ishaque
Deandra Dottin made her WPL debut only this year, but she has already left a brand. She went out to hit the twelfth in both games, and hit at a fast pace, scoring 25 of 13 of 13 while hitting RCB first, and then a 33* undefeated 18 in a complicated persecution against UPW to ensure that GG hunted 144 With two oversted overs. GG will expect Dottin’s career to continue and help them break their Jinx.
It is possible that Nat-Sciver Brunt has not scored much in recent ashes, but showed his class in my opening game. Batting in number 3, its 80 of 59 balls, which included 13 four, formed the rock bed of me. That is almost half of the 172 races that achieved in nine entries the last WPL, and its form will be a relief for me, whose batter is otherwise based mainly on Harmanpreet’s shoulders in the average order.
