Final Fantasy 16 Made a Surprising Engine Selection

Final Fantasy 16 Made a Surprising Engine Selection

Square Enix reveals its team made an unexpected engine choice early in the development of Final Fantasy 16 ahead of the game’s worldwide release.

Square Enix recently shared some exciting updates about their highly anticipated AAA RPG, Final Fantasy 16. One of the most intriguing pieces of information revealed is that the game will be the first from the company to incorporate advanced technology, due to an unexpected engine choice made during the early stages of development. In addition, the marketing campaign also highlighted that the cutscenes in Final Fantasy 16 will be longer than those featured in the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, hinting at an epic and immersive narrative that fans of the series are sure to love.

Square Enix hasn’t recently demonstrated a strong commitment to any one engine for the Final Fantasy series. The company released Final Fantasy 14, which used the Crystal Tools engine, Final Fantasy 15, which made use of the internal Luminous Engine that was later used in Forspoken, and two Unreal Engine 4 games, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and a remaster of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, over the past ten years.

This trend is now confirmed to continue with Final Fantasy 16, as Square Enix revealed in a recent interview with YouTuber Skill Up that the upcoming RPG does not use the Luminous Engine or Unreal Engine. The company declined to comment further, presumably because it intends to talk more about the game’s technological aspects when it is closer to being released. This information was obtained from the same interview where the producer of Final Fantasy 16 criticized the use of the term “JRPG,” which is frequently associated with Square Enix’s games.

If there are no further delays, the sequel to Final Fantasy 15 will be released almost seven years after the first game. And even though game development cycles have inevitably gotten longer as they’ve become more difficult to make, the now-possible fact that Final Fantasy 16 uses a new internal engine would still go a long way toward explaining why there has never been such a long time between two mainline entries in the venerable series.

Final Fantasy 16 porting times may be significantly impacted by Square Enix’s choice of engine, but it is unlikely that the AAA RPG will soon leave the PS5. Although the game’s producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has previously stated that he would like to eventually port the title to more platforms, he has also recently stated that fans will have to wait a very long time for a Final Fantasy 16 PC port. Not the least because Sony and Square Enix have a timed exclusivity agreement, though the need to focus on the PS5 during development might not necessarily make porting more difficult given the structural similarities between Sony’s most recent console and contemporary PCs.

Final Fantasy 16 launches June 22 for PlayStation 5.

How The Battle Pass is Ruining Matches in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

How The Battle Pass is Ruining Matches in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 video demonstrates how the game’s battle pass system can hinder the progression of multiplayer games.

In a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 video, the game’s battle pass system is shown to impede the development of multiplayer. In a humorous clip from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the battle pass system is shown to have the potential to sabotage multiplayer matches. With so many new games incorporating this system in some way, battle passes have established themselves as the standard in live service multiplayer games.

The most recent installments of the Call of Duty series have included a battle pass system that enables players to unlock weapons, operators, skins, and other gimmicks. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, users can unlock items by using battle pass tokens that they have earned by winning matches. Battle passes in contemporary multiplayer video games are meant to increase player engagement, but a clip demonstrates that they can also be used to sabotage matches.

A humorous video from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 featuring several players rotating on the spot during a match has been shared by Reddit user popemyet. The controller of these players has likely been rubberbanded, enabling them to get around a feature that would otherwise ban them from the game for inactivity. By using this technique, users can gain battle pass experience without actually participating in a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 match. In every game, according to Popemyet, a few players try to earn battle pass tokens by using this trick, and the post is replete with comments from other users who share the same issue.

It appears that many fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are dissatisfied with how the battle pass is progressing in Season 2, with some users reiterating its detrimental effect on the flow of matches. For instance, popemyet claims to have played an Infected match in Modern Warfare 2 where the first infected player immediately began spinning, causing the match to end before they could infect anyone else.

The battle pass experience points in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are allegedly determined by total playing time rather than skill. Players who are only interested in advancing through the battle pass without spending real money may have chosen to use this method during this time to level up while completing other tasks. One player thinks that making performance affect the amount of battle pass XP players receive might be a way to address the issue because it would deter players from going AFK in an effort to acquire tokens without actively playing the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The New Strand Skating Movement Technique in Destiny 2 Lightfall

The New Strand Skating Movement Technique in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Players of Destiny 2 are still using Strand to discover new ways to move around the game, such as a new skating technique that lets them move through the maps incredibly quickly.

Players are learning new skills like Strand Skating as they become more accustomed to the game’s new systems in Destiny 2: Lightfall. In general, the community seems to have embraced the new Strand darkness subclass, especially since Bungie removed the time-gated restrictions on fragments. Players have access to abilities to control the psychic energy known as the Weave, which connects all living things and minds in the universe.

Although using Strand to suspend and sever enemies can be entertaining, players have discovered that the new grapple ability, which takes the place of the grenade slot, is more potent than they initially believed. Fans have already used Strand grappling to navigate maps more quickly, either by grabbing rival players, teammates, or rockets that have been launched, or by riding super moves like the Titan’s Thundercrash. However, one player discovered that Strand appears to unlock a new skating movement technique, allowing for much faster movement than would otherwise be possible.

A user by the name of Dazzling-Fortune9986 posted an update to Strand Skating, a method that enables players to move quickly across maps, on the raidsecrets subReddit of Destiny 2. The Strand subclass, the new sword Caretaker, and the Valiant Charge perk on it must all be unlocked in order to use the technique, which is described in a video by InSaNeGaMeR300. The player can accelerate quickly by combining a heavy attack with a Strand dive and a jump on any sort of decline.

While playing around with Destiny 2, Dazzling-Fortune9986 has been working to improve the input consistency and appears to have developed a double skate move. If the player character does not leave the ground after the first swing, Dazzling-Fortune9986 can perform a ground skate that can combo into another skate using similar inputs and a slight slope. It turns out that teammates can shoot the player to initiate Valiant Charge, making it a little bit simpler to execute this move in a group.

While Bungie’s response to this recently discovered tactic is unknown, Destiny 2 players shouldn’t be too shocked if it ends up getting nerfed. The game has featured many “skating” moves over the years, including a well-liked one involving swords. These Sword Skating techniques have been used by players to access areas of maps that Bungie never intended, skip lengthy sections or encounters, and open chests without engaging in combat. Naturally, this has led to the nerfing or removal of swords and a number of movement techniques.

Overwatch 2 Art Shows Sigma Donning Kiriko’s New One-Punch Man Skin

Overwatch 2 Art Shows Sigma Donning Kiriko's New One-Punch Man Skin

A talented Overwatch 2 player created a drawing of Sigma wearing Kiriko’s skin from the game’s One Punch Man partnership.

The psychic Sigma would appear differently if he had received Kiriko’s skin from the One-Punch Man collaboration, according to a creative Overwatch 2 fan’s creation. The character Kiriko would get a skin based on Tatsumaki, a young lady with strong telekinetic abilities, as part of a larger effort between One-Punch Man and Overwatch 2 to release skins based on the anime.

Sigma is the character in Overwatch 2’s cast who comes closest to having telekinetic powers thanks to his ability to manipulate gravity in a manner that is comparable to telekinesis. He can be a force to be reckoned with, just like many other heroes in Overwatch 2, even if his advantages can be used against him in a fight.

Due to the similarities between Tatsumaki and Sigma, fan artist nenyn 2 created a piece of fan art depicting how the former would have appeared wearing Tatsumaki’s attire. Sigma is depicted in the piece staring at the viewer with several levitating rocks while donning a tight dress that reveals her well-defined and slightly hairy legs. Sigma also has Tatsumaki’s hair, either as a wig or styled hair that had to have grown out because the Overwatch 2 hero is typically bald when not sporting a pair of flats, which further sells the piece.

Viewers are obviously enjoying the art, as evidenced by the post’s over 20,000 upvotes, and this is further supported by the comments. Sigma will continue to do what he does best in Overwatch 2, which is throw rocks in people’s faces, according to the first comment. Sigma doesn’t wear shows, so the art is silly, someone else joked, and someone else issued a warning to spectators not to look up at him when he performs his ultimate move.

If nenyn 2’s article demonstrates anything, it’s that despite the controversy surrounding Overwatch 2’s matchmaking systems, many community members can still enjoy the characters. Even though many players have been dissatisfied with the results, Blizzard has been claiming to address that in order to improve the player experience. Despite the fact that the game itself may be having this problem, it is generally acknowledged that Sigma recently did a fantastic job of pulling off a skintight dress.

Overwatch 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Malenia is defeated by an Elden Ring player using a level 1 unupgraded weapon

Malenia is defeated by an Elden Ring player using a level 1 unupgraded weapon

Malenia, Blade of Miquella, a level 1 boss, must be defeated by one Elden Ring player using only unupgraded melee weapons.

Using only a level 1 melee weapon that hasn’t been upgraded, an Elden Ring player successfully completes an impressive challenge by taking down the challenging boss Malenia, Blade of Miquella. More builds are tested on the renownedly difficult boss as Elden Ring is played in an effort to determine what it will take to defeat her. While some players try to be a little more inventive with their consumables, others may use an overly powerful magic build that eliminates her before she can move. However, some players simply enjoy testing their skill levels in the absence of level increases.

Malenia is known for taking some Elden Ring players over 300 attempts to defeat, making her the hardest boss battle in the entire game. After navigating the challenging Miquella’s Haligtree legacy dungeon, her boss fight occurs. When a player takes on Malenia, she doesn’t pull any punches. She charges in quickly with a barrage of slashes that never seem to end, and one combo can easily take the life of an unwary player. After that, she enters a second phase known as Malenia, Goddess of Rot, which augments her attacks with Scarlet Rot. Fighting her head-on with just a standard melee weapon can be difficult for many players.

However, one player chose to experiment with that, engaging Malenia with an unupgraded melee weapon at its base level of 1. User gilfordtan demonstrated their full-length battle against Malenia as a level 1 character using a Vulgar Militia Saw with no upgrades in a Reddit video. At level 1, the Vulgar Militia Saw deals 126 physical attack damage on its own, which is adequate overall, but what’s most crucial is that it causes Blood Loss buildup, which Malenia is vulnerable to. The powerful Rivers of Blood Katana of Elden Ring is used in most blood-related builds, but the Vulgar Militia Saw works just as well.

After using a weapon that causes blood loss repeatedly, it starts to hemorrhage, which reduces the affected person’s maximum health by a certain percentage. The player relies on this significant loss of health along with strategic parries, dodges, and uses of Elden Ring’s Impaling Thrust, an Ashes of War attack that knocks the enemy to the ground. They are aware of all of Malenia’s attacks and when to attack to maximize the Hemorrhage effect. They gradually reduce Malenia’s health until both phases are won, proving that they are level 1 at the end of the clip.

Malenia will continue to be the hardest boss in Elden Ring, though that may change with the upcoming DLC, so more players will attempt to defeat her in as many ways as they can, whether that be with an unimproved Vulgar Militia Saw or an overpowered Mimic Tear. All this does is demonstrate how Elden Ring’s biggest obstacle can be overcome with sufficient willpower and knowledge.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Bungie Gives Players Access to All Destiny 2: Lightfall Strand Fragments

Bungie Gives Players Access to All Destiny 2: Lightfall Strand Fragments

Bungie is making every last locked Strand fragment in Destiny 2 available for purchase, which is an unprecedented but welcome move.

The Lightfall expansion for Destiny 2’s new Strand subclass has already established itself as one of its strongest features, so Bungie has decided to improve the experience even further by unlocking all of the remaining gameplay customization options earlier than planned. The newest Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall, pits the forces of Light and Darkness against one another in an epic conflict. Players who purchase Lightfall can access Strand’s never-before-seen abilities, enabling them to grapple across Destiny 2’s new explorable zone Neomuna and cut through foes.

The elemental subclasses that players can select from are one of Destiny 2’s key elements and its gameplay loop. The game currently offers three Light subclasses and two Darkness subclasses, each of which has advantages and disadvantages and follows a particular archetype. Subclasses in Destiny 2 are highly customizable thanks to the “Subclass 2.0” system, which allows players to pick and choose grenades, movement skills, and even class-related abilities. The same system allows players to dip into Aspects and Fragments, often enabling the usage of beneficial effects or debuffs that can be inflicted on enemies and even changing player skills altogether.

Strand was given the “Subclass 2.0” treatment from the beginning of Lightfall’s development as a new subclass. Players could only access a limited version of Strand during the new Destiny 2 campaign, and it served only as a plot device. Players could finally use Strand without restriction after finishing the storyline and unlocking the initial pieces and components required to construct a usable build. The majority of the fragments, however, were locked behind two distinct time gates, with some even requiring success in the upcoming Raid, as the players quickly discovered. Players quickly expressed their displeasure, which prompted Bungie to remove the time gates and make all of the Strand fragments accessible as a result of player pressure.

The removal of time gating on Strand fragments by Bungie is a welcome change of pace and evidence that the game’s creators have taken note of Stasis’ shortcomings. Players in the Beyond Light era had to put up with hours of gameplay using weaker abilities in order to unlock all the bells and whistles needed to make Stasis feel competitive. On the other hand, players can either farm for Strand meditations or wait for the money to accrue gradually before buying the Strand fragments. The ability to personalize and create distinctive builds is Destiny 2’s greatest strength, and Bungie’s updates to Strand demonstrate their commitment to upholding that fundamental principle.

Critics are slamming the bizarre narrative choices in Destiny 2, and there are rumors that Lightfall will be a filler expansion for the game. Even then, Bungie’s studio prowess is demonstrated by Strand’s ability to influence player creativity. Players can start playing Strand right away to unlock the final fragments and play however they please.

Destiny 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Players of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Want a Crossbow Buff

Players of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Want a Crossbow Buff

Players of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 are dissatisfied with the Crossbow, complaining that it is underwhelming and urging Raven Software to improve the weapon.

The new Crossbow weapon in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 hasn’t been well received by players. Although a fan favorite from the original game, the sequel’s version is noticeably weaker than the original, much to the chagrin of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players.

The second installment of the free-to-play battle royale series, Call of Duty: Warzone 2, will be released in November 2022 by Activision, Raven Software, and Infinity Ward. Despite the fact that Warzone 2 was released as a component of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it can be played independently of the main game. In addition to a revamped Gulag system and the addition of a larger number of AI-controlled enemies, Warzone 2 has more content than its predecessor. According to review aggregator site Metacritic, the game received “generally favorable” reviews, scoring 80 on PC and 79 on PS5.

The popular Crossbow weapon from Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 returned with the release of Season 2 last month. Fans were disappointed, though, because unlike in the first Call of Duty: Warzone, the Crossbow no longer results in a one-hit death. In Call of Duty: Warzone 2, it is not the only returning weapon to receive a nerf, nor is this the first time that Raven Software has specifically nerfed the Crossbow. Many fans, however, were dissatisfied with the change, especially in light of how difficult it is to obtain the Crossbow in Warzone 2.

The Crossbow was first used as a one-shot kill weapon in the initial Call of Duty: Warzone. This was overpowered, though, and Raven Software quickly changed it so that the Crossbow’s bolts instead put targets in a Downed state. The weapon is further weakened in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 so that it now requires two shots to take down a target. This seems to be related to Raven Software’s deliberate choice to exclude one-hit weapons from the game. Given that arrows have a much more severe drop-off than other weapons, headshots are still instantly lethal but extremely challenging.

Although the developers of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 may see this as reasonable, fans are not pleased with the change. The Crossbow is already a single-shot weapon with a three-second reload time, as a Warzone 2 player on Reddit noted. The weapon is much less effective than it once was because it takes two shots to take down an enemy, especially given the game’s current meta. Fans of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 are requesting Raven Software to restore the Crossbow to its pre-previous game state.

New Character Dehya is considered to be underpowered by Genshin Impact Players

New Character Dehya is considered to be underpowered by Genshin Impact Players

The newest character added to the gacha game, Dehya, has angered Genshin Impact players who feel she is too weak.

Fans of Genshin Impact are dissatisfied with the new character, Dehya, because they feel that she is too weak. Dehya was eagerly anticipated, but many people felt that it fell short of the expectations once it was released. However, players of Genshin Impact continue to appreciate the expanding cast of characters in addition to Dehya.

The HoYoverse game has been available since 2020, when it was a somewhat contentious release. One ChinaJoy attendee allegedly smashed a PS4 in protest the year before due to the game’s alleged resemblance to Breath of the Wild. Genshin Impact quickly gained popularity after it was released because it quickly established itself in its own niche. The characters obtained through the gacha mechanic are one of the biggest draws for many.

Dehya, who was first revealed in January, has been leaked, creating some anticipation for the role. Players were dissatisfied with Dehya’s skill set as soon as she became a playable character in Genshin Impact version 3.5. Dehya has some of the lowest attack stats in the game, even lower than many 4-star characters, despite being a 5-star character. This could, however, be a deliberate design decision to counteract Dehya the Desert Mercenary.

Dehya will be playable at all times by the end of Genshin Impact’s version 3.5 playthrough, unlike the majority of the game’s other 5-star characters, who frequently are only accessible for three weeks at a time. She will be so well-known, so it is understandable that players would desire a more powerful character. To balance out player rosters, she might not be quite as strong as the other 5-star characters for this very reason. Despite the fact that players enjoy the gameplay, characters, and setting, it appears that the community wants Genshin to be the best it can be. One player even suggested some intriguing changes for the game’s Elemental Resonance system.

This mentality can also be seen in Dehya’s subreddit, which has been populated by irate players who are talking about emailing HoYoverse to request a stronger skillset for the character while others offer tips on how to make the best use of Dehya’s current abilities. Players might want to figure out how to use Dehya’s Constellation to its fullest in order to get the most out of the Desert Mercenary since the character has only recently been made available to players.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.

Overwatch 2 Season 3 Ashe Skin Has a Major Design Issue, and Devs Are Working to Fix It

Overwatch 2 Season 3 Ashe Skin Has a Major Design Issue, and Devs Are Working to Fix It

A design flaw affecting a brand-new Ashe skin that is currently accessible in Season 3 of Overwatch 2 is being investigated by Blizzard.

The new Raijin Ashe skin for Overwatch 2 has a significant design flaw that can affect users’ gameplay, as discovered by the game’s players. Overwatch 2 players might want to pick a different skin for the hero in the interim while Blizzard’s developers work on a solution to the issue.

Ashe has amassed a number of iconic skins since her release, despite not being a part of the original Overwatch roster until November 2, 2018. With the release of the Raijin skin, Blizzard has added yet another Ashe-themed cosmetic to the lineup following the start of Season 3 of Overwatch 2. The Japanese deity of lightning, thunder, and storms served as the inspiration for this new style. While many fans adore the new skin’s appearance, some feel that it is unpractical.

Overwatch 2’s Raijin Ashe skin has a problem, and recently, gamers have started bringing it up online. They have specifically mentioned a problem with the iron sights on the gun’s design, which makes it more difficult to see the rest of the battlefield. This issue was brought up in a tweet from a user going by the handle Miraak, who shared a few screenshots comparing the iron sights on the new Raijin skin and those on the standard rifle design side by side. These pictures made it clear that the new skin blocked more of the screen when aiming down sights.

Hi @OhReallyJared ! Congrats to the OW2 team for releasing this awesome Ashe skin! As a small feedback, the sight on this skin is sadly blocking a lot of the vision compared to the OW1 / OW2 default skin. Are there any chances the team is reworking the sight? pic.twitter.com/CTTtOaktoa

— Miraak (@miraakyt) February 28, 2023

Thankfully, the Blizzard team has listened to the Overwatch 2 community’s concerns and has taken action. The Overwatch 2 executive producer Jared Neuss tweeted that the gun’s development team is working on a fix so that the iron sights do not obstruct the user’s field of view. Although the precise date of this weapon update is unknown, Neuss stated that it should occur “no later” than the beginning of Season 4, which he pointed out was in April. Additionally, he disclosed that everyone who buys this bundle will get a name card that was originally supposed to come with the Raijin Ashe skin.

Two updates on Raijin Ashe:

We’re adjusting the sight so that it doesn’t block the player’s view. The fix should go live no later than S4 launch (April).
We’re going to grant the name card that was briefly advertised with the skin bundle to everyone who buys the bundle.

— Jared Neuss (@OhReallyJared) March 2, 2023

Despite the problems with the iron sights, players can still purchase the Raijin Ashe skin from the in-game shop even though it is not one of the many cosmetics included in the Season 3 Battle Pass for Overwatch 2. Unfortunately, the problem is made worse by the fact that there does not appear to be a way for players to preview how the weapon’s iron sights will appear before they have already paid for the skin.

It will be interesting to see when this Raijin Ashe skin design flaw is fixed. It’s hoped that Blizzard will release a fix soon so that Overwatch 2 players can keep using the new DPS hero skin without worrying about possibly losing out in-game.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

TikTok Responds to Proposals by US Politicians to Ban the App

TikTok Responds to Proposals by US Politicians to Ban the App

After a US Congressional committee approves a bill that could make it simpler to outlaw the app, TikTok issues a statement.

TikTok issues a statement after a U.S. Congressional Committee decided to send the President a bill that, if signed, would make it simpler to outlaw the social media application. According to TikTok’s statement, the fast-tracking of the bill would hurt both American users’ free speech rights and those of TikTok users around the world.

Over the past few years, TikTok has come under increasing pressure from U.S. government officials due to concerns that American data could be at risk due to scrutiny of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance and its relationship with the Chinese government. TikTok was recently made illegal on government officials’ devices thanks to legislation. Colleges either voluntarily prohibit TikTok use on their campuses, as is the case at the University of Mississippi, or they adhere to state laws, as is the case at the University of Texas at Austin.

A TikTok spokesperson expressed disappointment in the rushed bill and asserted that TikTok is a US company that follows US laws. A ban on TikTok would allegedly affect American free speech values and prevent the export of American culture, according to the statement. In a separate statement to CNN, TikTok asserts that it would prefer that a national security bill it co-wrote with the American government that it claims would allay these worries be passed.

TikTok responded to the US government’s potential ban of the app pic.twitter.com/JXkgA711Qj

— Dexerto (@Dexerto) March 1, 2023

H.R. 1153, also known as the Deterring America’s Technological Adversaries Act, is a bill that was presented to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Congress. If ByteDance was found to have “knowingly transferred TikTok’s user data to any foreign person working for or under the influence of the Chinese government,” the bill would allow the Biden Administration to impose sanctions on the company. If there is proof that ByteDance gave the Chinese government crucial information about Americans, the bill would have levels of penalties that could lead to a nationwide ban of TikTok.

NOW – White House: TikTok is a “potential national security risk.” pic.twitter.com/ScDh1rQfOR

— Disclose.tv (@disclosetv) March 1, 2023

The bill has mostly partisan differences in support and opposition. Democrats believe the bill has moved through the process too quickly, may cause confusion, and unintentionally put U.S. and European businesses at risk. Republicans point to the possibility that ByteDance may be under pressure from the Chinese government to release sensitive data on or spread false information to Americans. The Berman Amendment of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which forbids the “free flow of information,” is another law that the bill allegedly infringes upon and weakens.

Millions of Americans, particularly Gen Zers who use the platform to share important information with one another as well as perform trendy dances and play practical jokes, would be impacted by a national TikTok ban. Although there is a growing danger that the Chinese government could negatively affect users, it is important to tread lightly so as not to jeopardize Americans’ right to free speech.
