Half-Life 2 art director Viktor Antonov, died at age 52.
The news was confirmed on Sunday by the former main writer of Valve, Marc Laidlaw, who shared his thoughts in a publication now eliminated on social networks.
“I didn’t want to say much until I felt it was confirmed, but today I learned that Viktor Antonov, our visionary art leadership in half life 2, died,” Laidlaw wrote. “I have no details, only sadness. Bright and original. He did everything better.”
The former colleagues shared their condolences, including Arkane and the founder of Wolfeye Studios Raphaël Colantonio in Bluesky.
“I would like to tell you how much admiration I had for you, but they catch us in our lives until a surprise like this hits us,” Colantonio wrote.
“You were fundamental for the success of Arkane Studios and an inspiration for many of us, and also a friend with whom I have very good memories.”
Antonov began his career in games as a maps painter for Redneck Rampage in 1997. He joined Valve in 2004, where he provided his artistic vision for half -life 2.
Antonov went on to work for Arkane Studios as a visual designer in Dishonored in 2012. He was also a consultant in some Zenimax titles, including Fallout 4, the restart of Doom 2016 and the dam.
He also worked in canceled games, including the first -person shooter of Arkane, The Crossing and Bethesda game Studios, Battlecry Free Multiplayer of Austin.
In 2022, Antonov co -founded the entertainment of eschatology with Fuad Kuliev, Dmytro Kostiukevych and Boris Nikolaev.
