Valencia flooded: La Liga managers criticize the decision to play the weekend matches

Various L. a. League officials believe that matches in the Spanish gliding supremacy should have been banned this weekend following floods in Valencia that left at least 211 dead.

Torrential hail in the Valencia area on Monday caused flooding that destroyed bridges, covered cities in dust, destroyed communities and left them without water, food or electricity.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has said the death toll is expected to rise further.

Real Madrid’s match in Valencia and Rayo Vallecano’s trip to Villarreal were both suspended by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Atlético de Madrid’s home game against Las Palmas will take place on the field at 13:00 GMT on Sunday and coach Diego Simeone was key for the RFEF during his pre-match press conference.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” Simeone said.

“What is happening is very hard. The people who went out to the streets to help, who with a shovel and their tools try to collaborate, that speaks very well of the country, of the people, and we want to help in whatever way we can.” .

“There is an audience that has a very evil presence, it is very sad that they let us know to hold on and here we are, holding on.”

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick echoed Simeone’s thoughts when speaking ahead of Sunday’s 15:15 GMT match against Catalan rivals Espanyol.

“If it had been me, I probably would have done it [suspend sport] because it is a tragedy out of this world for Valencia and Spain as a whole,” said Flick.

“We have already spoken with [Barcelona attacker] Ferran [Torres]which belongs to the department, and it is not easy to decide whether the sport should be held or not.

“For me it is a tragedy. It was something similar in Germany three years ago, it is horrible. We will do everything we can to help. The rest will be decided by La Liga.”

Girona beat Leganés 4-3 on Saturday and coach Michel admitted it was difficult to take any joy out of the result.

“I wasn’t upset, but we shouldn’t celebrate anything because this game shouldn’t have been played,” Michel said.

Miguel Gutiérrez opened the scoring for Girona and raised a blouse with the message “Forca Valencia” to help his pocket.

“The first shirt I picked up was for my friend Enrique, whose mother is missing. The current took her away and they are still looking for her,” said Gutiérrez.

“I think the game takes a backseat. Apart from Madrid, the city in which I have spent the most time and where I have the most friends and connections is Valencia.

“I assure you that I have seen videos and I have been on video screaming with friends and it is an emergency, an absolute nightmare.”
