Third quarter report
The Mavericks are on the road, but they don’t look any worse. With a score of 86-76, they looked like the better team, but there is still one more quarter to play.
The Mavericks came into the matchup with extra motivation after the loss they suffered the last time these two teams met. We’ll see if they are able to turn the script around or if it will simply be more of the same.

What to know
The Jazz will be in front of their home fans on Saturday, but a look at the layout shows they could use that home-field advantage. They will host the Dallas Mavericks at 9:30 pm ET at the Delta Center. The Jazz may want some stickiness for this game, as the team had 18 turnovers on Wednesday.
The Jazz come into the game after suffering their biggest loss since Nov. 7 on Wednesday. They found themselves reluctant to take a punch in the gut 122-103 against the Nuggets. Utah took an early lead (up 12 with 5:48 left in the first quarter), but unfortunately they couldn’t maintain that momentum.
Despite the loss, the Jazz got strong performances from Walker Kessler, who had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Collin Sexton, who went 9 of 16 en route to 26 points. The dominant performance also gave Kessler a new career-high in assists (five).
Although they lost, the Jazz broke the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. These are the most offensive rebounds they have achieved all season.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks won against the Hawks on Monday by 129 points and decided to maintain that point total again on Wednesday. The Mavericks surpassed the Knicks with points to spare and took the game 129-114. Dallas brought the score to 90-71 at the end of the third, a deficit that New York cut but never fully recovered from.
The Mavericks’ success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Spencer Dinwiddie led the charge by nearly posting a double-double with 21 points and nine assists.
Utah hasn’t been strong recently, as the team has lost six of its last seven matchups, making a notable dent in its 4-14 record this season. As for Dallas, their victory was their third in a row at home, bringing their record to 11-8.
The Jazz outscored the Mavericks 115-113 when the teams last played on Nov. 14. Do the Jazz have another win up their sleeve or will the Mavericks turn them around? We will have the answer very soon.
