Troy Baker as Indy shows that you don’t need to “steal actors’ souls” with AI, says Harrison Ford

Troy Baker’s performance as Indiana Jones is proof that AI is not necessary to keep some characters alive, says Harrison Ford.

Baker played the iconic adventurer at the launch of Xbox and PC last year, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, who will arrive in PS5 this year.

While the appearance of Indy in the game is based on Ford’s, his voice and movement capture were provided by Baker.

Now, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ford has suggested that Baker’s performance is the perfect response for those who feel that AI can be used in the future to create new performances of the actors who have retired or deceased.

The publication asked Ford if he was taking precautions to make sure the digital versions of him still did not appear in films after having died, particularly because his recent roles in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Captain America: Brave New World involved capturing its appearance to turn it into a younger Indy and red Hulk respectively.

Ford replied that there was no need to use AI to artificially create new performances, because there are other ways to continue their characters.

“You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul,” Ford explained. “You can do it for coins and coins of ten cents with good ideas and talent.”

Then, referring to Baker’s performance as Indy, he added: “He did a brilliant job, and he was not needed to do so.”

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Review of VGC took note of Baker’s performance, saying: “The greatest fulfillment we can pay is that the only way you would know was not Harrison Ford is the fact that Ford is 82 years old.”

“Baker’s impression is so good that calling it an impression feels unfair, it is an impeccable performance,” we write. “The serious side, the sarcastic side, all about Iny in the big circle is exactly how it should be. Everything contributes to the feeling that Indiana Jones in the big circle is really the sixth Indy movie.
