Last week, a spicy rumor was demolished as it appeared. A local media in Pittsburgh reported that the Steelers were looking to acquire the Jacksonville Jaguars field marshal, Trevor Lawrence, offering two draft selections in return. Later in the day, the NFL Media described the rumors as “false” and said the steelers never explored it.
Even if the rumors were real, however, a trade would have been unlikely to occur, according to Lawrence himself.
“I have a clause without trade in my contract, so I would know if they exchanged me or if that were something that was going to happen,” Lawrence said during an appearance in UP and ADAMS. “I would have to be on board, which I am not. I am happy here in Jacksonville. I plan, we want to win a Super Bowl here, and I think we can do that. I don’t want to leave Jacksonville.
Lawrence signed an extension of five years worth $ 275 million in total and $ 142 million guaranteed only the last season. That agreement covers the seasons of 2026 until 2030, and has four years empty at the end. The JAGs would have to incur a dead money capitalization of $ 100 million this season if they changed it, according to the CAP, which is an increase of $ 83 million with respect to their current number.
So, even from the perspective of the JAGS, it would be a very unlikely proposal. And according to Lawrence, the Jags never had a conversation about it. (That they joined with an ESPN report that indicates that the discussions never took place).

“I know we were not involved in conversations about that, with regard to Jacksonville. I don’t know about the desires and desires of Steelers. I don’t know,” he said. “This is home to us. And there is much more on the football side that we have not yet achieved here, and I am excited about what we are building. The future is very brilliant and I want to be the guy who is here for a long time” .
The JAGs have just hired a new chief coach in the former offensive coordinator of Buccaneers, Liam Coen, and are still looking for a new general manager. The entire idea behind Coen’s hiring was that he could help raise Lawrence to a new level. Again, all this seemed a bit ridiculous in the first place. And now we have confirmation of several (more or less) games involved that was never really real.
