What to know
The Raptors will be in front of their home fans on Sunday, but a look at the layout shows they could use that home-field advantage. They and the Atlanta Hawks will complete the year against each other at 6:00 pm ET at Scotiabank Arena. The Raptors come into the game reeling from nine straight losses, while the Hawks will come in buoyed by three straight wins.
The Raptors head into the game after suffering their biggest loss since Dec. 5 on Thursday. They suffered a resounding 155-126 loss at the hands of the Grizzlies. Toronto trailed 121-100 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
The Raptors’ loss should not overshadow the performances of RJ Barrett, who nearly had a triple-double with 27 points, nine rebounds and ten assists, and Scottie Barnes, who had 26 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, the Raptors worked as a unit and finished the game with 39 assists (ranked fifth in assists per game overall). That’s the most assists they’ve posted since December 2023.
Meanwhile, the Hawks beat the Heat 120-110 on Saturday.
The Hawks relied on the efforts of Jalen Johnson, who had a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds, and De’Andre Hunter, who was 8 of 14 en route to 26 points plus five rebounds. Johnson has been hot recently, having recorded 11 or more rebounds in the last four times he played.
Toronto’s loss dropped its record to 7-24. As for Atlanta, their victory was their third in a row at home, bringing their record to 17-15.
The Raptors won a thrilling game against the Hawks in their previous matchup in February, winning 123-121. Will the Raptors repeat their success or do the Hawks have a better game plan this time? We will know very soon.
