The Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy, has published an open letter that details the company’s plans by 2025, including new ways of collaborating, mobile improvements and more monetization.
After thanking the transmission community for an “amazing” 2024 – “more than ever, in today’s world, we all want and need to find belonging and connection with other people,” Clancy said, the CEO listed new tools and opportunities for serpentines, as well as new ways to build the connection.
The collaboration is a “central part of Twitch”, so after the Together Transmission function added last year, the company is working on shared bomb trains and shared substines to generate income in collaboration. In addition, the shared chat will be manageable in the mobile application for IRL streamers.
Speaking of Mobile, last year Twitch relaunched its mobile application (as announced on Twitchcon Europe), adding a feed of discovery to find transmitters based on recommendations. This year will continue to review the application, adding the ability to transmit in videos of landscapes and vertical, and investing in the feed to help the discovery. The clips, short videos of the best moments of a streamer, will also be easier to edit.
Perhaps the most interesting thing is that Twitch is opening monetization for “most” streamers, such as subscriptions and bits. In general, streamers must reach the affiliate status before monetization tools are activated, but this year the streamers can start winning immediately. Of course, Twitch takes a cut of all monetization, so it is a benefit for both the company and for the streamers.
In other places, the company is launching a new tool for streamers so that brands know what they want to collaborate (sponsored transmissions are often more lucrative for streamers than subscriptions), and will also launch more promotional events.
It is important to highlight that Twitch continues to focus on security. This month, Twitch updated its application rules; Next, it seeks to provide more details about the violations, and expand the moderator tools to facilitate the protection of the transmissions.
Finally, Twitch will expand more of its unions (such as the pride of the guild) to a global community and include ambassadors around the world.
It has been a quieter start for the year for Twitch compared to 2024. It began last year with more than 500 layoffs when Clancy admitted that the platform is not profitable.
A report later in the year claimed that the staff was concerned about more layoffs on the road and the future of the platform.
On Twitchcon Europe last year, I spoke with the vice president of Jeremy Forrester products about the sustainability of the platform.
