According to a manager at GameStop, the well-known retail chain has begun making corporate layoffs. Since Reddit users helped the company’s stock price reach record highs in 2021, there has been a significant amount of fluctuation, and it appears that the changes will continue into 2023.

The beginning of a systemic transformation at GameStop was signaled by the publication of its 2021 annual report, which also stated that GameStop is “focused on evolving into a customer-obsessed technology company.” The only issue appears to be that while GameStop is shifting its emphasis to being customer-obsessed, customers don’t seem to be as obsessed with GameStop as they once were, which ultimately results in unfavorable working conditions for employees.

In the video, the manager claims that “everything is on clearance” and that “no one comes in anymore.” She also mentions in the video that GameStop has started firing employees. The TikTok video, which has amassed over 6.4 million views as of this writing, has sparked debate about GameStop’s and its employees’ futures.

Former GameStop employees and managers shared their personal accounts of their experiences working there in the comments section of redsonjattv’s video. Some customers blamed the company’s decline on the high costs of used games, while others expressed surprise that GameStop had endured this long at all. The most popular comments on the video compare GameStop to Blockbuster and RadioShack.

According to RetailDive, GameStop’s decision to prioritize profitability resulted in a number of significant changes at the company, including corporate layoffs across GameStop and the closure of the company’s distribution center in Kentucky. In addition, GameStop abruptly fired all over 50 district managers. Short-term earnings and long-term growth are the company’s two main priorities, according to CEO Matt Furlong. Every decision the company makes is very carefully considered, with the goal of achieving longevity in mind.

After posting her video, the TikToker later described the current state of her actual retail location in an email to the Daily Dot. She continued by saying that before Christmas, the store was virtually empty and that Black Friday had been even worse. She cites business decisions made over the years as the cause of GameStop’s demise. There hasn’t been any talk of her store closing despite all of these worries. We don’t yet know what the future holds for the once-famous video game retailer GameStop as it continues to change.
