The average count of Overwatch 2 vapor players has decreased by almost 40% since the launch of Marvel Rivals, according to a new report.
According to SteamDB data, as investigated by Thegamer, the average monthly Overwatch 2 players have fallen significantly in the last two months.
In September, October and November 2024, the average count of players was around 35,000, 34,000 and 32,000 respectively.
However, Marvel Rivals was then launched on December 5, and according to SteamDB, the average count of Overwatch 2 players for December was 25,248, a 21.7%drop.
SteamdB also points out that in the last 30 days (that is, January to date), the average has been 19,745, an additional drop of 21.8%.
While most games see that their average counts of players fall naturally for a period of time, Overwatch 2 has never seen two falls of more than 20% in consecutive months. In fact, from July to September 2024 it was to see the average increase by 4.4%, 17.6% and 2.3% per month.
While it cannot be said with certainty that the launch of Marvel’s rivals contributed directly to the decrease in Overwatch 2 numbers, then, it cannot be argued that the players count has seen a remarkable fall since Marvel Rivals was launched .
Both games are free team shooters, with Marvel rivals that offer a 6V6 and Overwatch 2 game that offer 5V5 (unlike the original Overwatch, which was also 6V6).
When Marvel Rivals launched its first season in mid -January, it reached 644,269 concurrent players, placing it at number 14 in the highest concurrent players counts in Steam, exceeding other popular titles such as Apex Legends, Path of Exile 2, Helldivers 2 and GTA and GTA and GTA and GTA 5.
In December he enjoyed an average count of players of 301,733, and in January to date its average has remained stable at 308,258, more than 15 times than that of Overwatch 2.
