Taw-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has been asked why Grand Theft Auto 6 still does not have a release date, despite the fact that the editor recently insisted that he is on the way to launch this fall.
In statements to Bloomberg in a recently published interview, Zelnick said that Rockstar Games’s father wanted to keep the anticipation for GTA6, which according to him was greater than for any release in history.
“The anticipation for that title can be the greatest anticipation that I have seen in an entertainment property, and I have been around the block several times, and I have been in all entertainment businesses,” he said. “And we want to maintain anticipation and emotion.
“We have competitors who will describe their launch calendar years in advance, and we have discovered that it is best to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window to create that emotion on the one hand and balance emotion with dissatisfied anticipation. We do not always do well, but that is what we are trying to do.”
Grand Theft Auto 6 will officially launch this fall, and although it still does not have a confirmed launch date, the Matrix Take-Two company recently said that GTA6’s release date is on its way.
Market analysts expect GTA6 to be the largest entertainment launch of 2025 and, according to a recent game business report, multiple important editors are prepared to move their own releases to avoid it.
“Rockstar games always stink a lot of money and, more importantly, time outside the market,” said the head of one of the world’s largest game editors. “We don’t want to be close to that. We are working on multiple different plans for our titles.”
It is said that another senior executive added: “Even without GTA. It is immensely difficult to find free time to shine new games. Time is the real shortage for us, not money. It is difficult out there.”
