While Eric Dickerson I wasn’t too happy About Saquon Barkley chasing his regular race record of the regular season, Terrell Davis said he will be happy to see Barkley break his single -season race record during the Super Bowl Lix.
Barkley, who died trying to break Dickerson’s record in week 18 (was 101 yards away), is 30 yards by land to break the Davis season with the postseason included.
“It’s not about whether I want me to do it, but if someone will break it, I couldn’t happen to a better guy,” Davis said earlier this week. “A better athlete, a better person. Excited by him, his trip, where he was last year and now, he has the opportunity to be in the postseason, to a game of winning the Super Bowl. I am happy for him.
“The good thing about watching football at this time of the year is that when you turn on a game and you see that your name is constantly mentioned with the best positions of positions,” Davis continued. “You see the courtyards, the TouchDowns, the 100 -yard games. I love seeing my name there, but again, it has been some time, and I am happy for him. I could not happen to a better person.”
Davis is in the Hall of Fame in large part due to their post -business careers with the Broncos, who won consecutive titles largely on the strength of Davis’s career. In 1997, Davis ran for 2,331 combined yards that included 157 yards and three touchdowns in the shocking discomfort of Denver of the defending champion Packers in the Super Bowl XXXII. Davis was appointed MVP of the victory of the 31-24 of the Broncos, the first title of the Super Bowl of the franchise. The Packers field marshal coach that day was the current chief coach of the Andy Reid bosses.
A year later, Davis won the MVP honors of the League after running for 2,008 yards during the regular season. The Broncos were repeated as Super Bowl champions, with the 2,476 combined yards of Davis as the record of a single season.
Barkley’s 20th season has been disturbingly similar to Davis’s record seasons. He ran for 2,005 yards during the regular season before rumbling for 119, 205 and 118 yards in the victories of the Philadelphia playoffs on the Packers, Rams and Commanders, respectively. The 2,447 yards by land of Barkley have put him on the precipice of breaking the Davis record.
“He will break it,” Davis said about Barkley. “That’s great. I can live with that.”
Barkley surely hopes to imitate the success that Davis and his teams had in the Super Bowl. On Sunday, Barkley and the Eagles will face a defense of the Chiefs that occupied the eighth place in the NFL in yards by land allowed during the regular season. Kansas City has gone 18 consecutive games without allowing a 100 -yard corridor.
If the Eagles win, Barkley will join Davis and the corridor of the Hall of Fame ITIMT Smith as the only champions by land to win the Super Bowl. It is not bad for a player who was allowed to walk in free agency this low season.
