One of the brands of a true NBA Superstar is that they almost always find a way to get their points. They could have a horrible night of shooting, get in trouble or fight with ball losses, but most of the time they will end 20-25 points. So, when you look through the box score and see a single digit for one of the best scorers of all time, it is always worth a second look.
Sunday that was the case of Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry’s guard, who scored only three points in a 106-96 defeat against the Houston Rockets. That is the least amount of points that Curry has scored in an NBA game in which he has played at least 30 minutes.
The future member of the Hall of Fame simply could not put anything against the defense of suffocating rockets, which kept him in shooting of 1 of 10, including 1 of 8 of the range of 3 points. The only shot that Curry made was 37 feet just before the half -time bell.
To close a superstar is always a team effort, but on Sunday the main task of Curry fell to the sensation of the second year Amen Thompson, which was more than at the height of the challenge. He relentlessly pursued curry around the screens while challenging his jumpers without dirtying and pressing his units to the basket.
It was even more impressive since Curry entered Sunday with a total of 52, 37 and 36 in his last three games.

The great man of the rockets, Alperen Senguun, also sang the praises of Thompson, who helped keep the MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 22 points on Friday, more than 10 below the average of the season.
“Amen wasn’t smiling all day. I was locked up. I couldn’t even talk to him. He was locked up,” Senguun said. “The last two games are enclosing the best players in the world … the best players in the League. That is impressive in their second year. He is putting names there in the defensive player of the year.”
The Warriors striker, Jimmy Butler, had a different opinion about how the rockets could block Curry all night.
“I’ve never seen an individual one more foul than a foul receives,” Butler said about Curry. “For me, I think it’s amazing. It is crazy to say it, but he has become accustomed. He has been happening his entire career, and has found a path through him, around him, below, whatever you want to call him. That’s difficult.”
Putting physicist with Curry, particularly outside the ball, has been the play book to defend it for almost his entire career. Ultimately, it is about how the referees choose to officiate the game, and on Sunday the rocks walked successfully between physicality and essay, keeping Curry to one of the worst offensive performances he has never suffered.
