The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun preparations for the season of free agencies 2025. This process has included the launch of an old second round acquired by the Steelers just before the commercial deadline last year.
Pittsburgh has launched the veteran external supporter Preston Smith, a movement that will release $ 12 million in capitalization space (h/t the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
Smith spent eight games with the steelers after Pittsburgh acquired it Through trade with the Packers in exchange for a seventh selection of 2025. The agreement was reduced shortly after Smith requested an exchange that was based on his desire to play for a team that uses a 3-4 defense.
“It is just what I have been playing in the last nine years of my career,” Smith said shortly after being marketed, through the Pittsburgh Tribune review. “Just being back in the system is like riding your favorite bike again.”
While it seemed to fit well on paper, Smith did not have a great impact during his time with Steelers. He had only two captures in eight games and was a healthy scratch for the defeat of the Pittsburgh Commodines playoffs against the Ravens.
By releasing him now, Steelers have given Smith an early start at free agency, which officially begins on March 12. Smith, 32, should have a decent market despite last year’s fall in production. He had eight catches in 2023 and counted 41.5 captures of 2019-23 that included 12 captures in his career in 2019.

A second round of 2015, Smith’s 70.5 race catches are the 14th most active. He spent his first four seasons in Washington before spending the next six seasons with the Packers, where he accumulated 44 captures.
While Smith will start looking for a new team, the Steelers will now try to find their replacement. Pittsburgh has three quarters of its passes runners already in its place with the headlines TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith and the support Nick Herbig, who had 5.5 captures of his career last season.
