Stanford beat Notre Dame with a miraculous midfield goal in the final seconds and advances to the ACC tournament
Stanford booked a spot in the ACC Men’s soccer Championship quarterfinals in style with a stunning long-range shot from Dylan Hooper that sent them just seconds from time. Hooper was heading toward the halfway line and kicked the ball forward, a move that looked more like a long ball to the attackers near the Notre Dame goal than a shot itself. However, with just two seconds left in the game, the ball surprisingly made its way into the top right corner. The goal gave Stanford a 3-2 lead and secured a spot in the next round.

Take a look below.

The long-range shot marked the end of an entertaining match. Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a penalty scored by Matthew Rouu, but Jackson Kill scored for Stanford in the 34th minute. Stanford then took the lead via a penalty in the 85th minute, and Notre’s Mitch Robinson Dame tied it with just 12 seconds left. Hooper scored just 10 seconds after Robinson did.

Stanford will play Clemson on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament and is the No. 1 seed in the conference championship. The Cardinal hopes to use the ACC tournament to book a spot in the NCAA Tournament, which begins later this month.
