Sri Lanka vs Australia 2024/25, SL vs Aus 1st Test Match Report, January 29 – February 2, 2025

Australia 261 for 2 (Khawaja 119*, Smith 64*, Head 57, Vandersay 1-67) vs. Sri Lanka

Captain Stand-in, Steven Smith, scored his 10,000 test before compiling a majestic half century, while Usman Khawaja reached his 16th ton, since Australia was rewarded by an aggressive approach against an attack by Sri Lanka with a slow surface from Galle.

Australia moved to a dominant position on the opening day of the series after a second session without Wickt. Khawaja and Smith have combined for an uninterrupted association of 126 races to capitalize on friendly conditions for batting.

Smith, who averaged 66 in 38 previous tests as Captain, reached half a century in 57 balls before decreasing speed before tea.

He had been perched on 9999 races after being breathless of the milestone in the fifth test against India in his SCG field.

But Smith reached the milestone in his first installment just before lunch with a movie in mid -to join Rick Ponting, Allan Border and Steve Waugh as the only Australians to achieve milestone. He obtained a strong ovation from his teammates and Jovial Australia fans on the terraces while celebrating with a modest wave of the bat.

It almost fell moments later when he offered a capture back to the left arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who spilled a chance to his right. But Smith was almost perfect after lunch when he put on his hoarding cap and hit with authority. Like the Khawaja and Travis Head openers in the first session, Smith stood up quickly and attacked the spinners on the floor.

Not having to face the tormenter Jasprit Bumrah, Khawaja has cut a relaxed figure and has played with a good intention of finishing a long drought that has left without a century since the opening ashes test in mid -2023.

After a thin series against India, the pressure had been built on Khawaja, 38, but reimbursed faith perfectly complementing the aggressiveness of Smith and Head, who justified his promotion in the order with 57 of 40 balls.

Khawaja deployed the reverse scan for a good effect and scored a healthy clip to reach its 135 ball century, celebrating its fists and removing the helmet before stirring its bat.

It has been a steamy beginning for the series for Sri Lanka, who were particularly careless in the field and late with their criticism. They were left in the numerous opportunities to fire Khawaja, including two fallen captures of the bowling alley of an increasingly nervous jayasuriya, who destroyed Australia in the place with a 12 Wickt route in his debut in the test in 2022.

Khawaja was also lucky in the 74 years when he beat Jayasuriya to Wicktkeeper Kusal Mendis, but Sri Lanka did not review the non -exit decision.

In addition to a threatening spell before lunch of the leg editor Jeffrey Vandersay, who changed the ball square after being a surprising inclusion, Sri Lanka bowling players have been shaken and unable to control the score race of Australia. They limited the limits before tea amid defensive tactics.

The head marked the guideline after Smith did not hesitate to hit when the currency fell in his favor amid the suffocating humidity and a herb without herb. In a somewhat controversial movement, Head rose from number 5 at the expense of Sam Konstas, 19, who had had a striking start of his test career against India.

The decision also allowed Josh Inglis, Wicktkeeper of Western Australia and an outstanding Spin player, to make his debut in the five as a specialized batter.

Having previously fought as a medium order batter in Sri Lanka, Head succeeded as a starter in India on the 2023 tour and replied in his whirlwind. Head’s rapid strike rate suggests a belligerent batting directly from the recently concluded Big Bash League, but played intelligently and mainly orthodox.

The head was pounced immediately in the rebel bowling of Asitha Fernando, the only first line of Sri Lanka rapid, with three limits in the opening.

Head ran to 23 of 13 and showed no mercy, but he received some luck in the last ball of the spell of Tres against Fernando when he was beaten in the pads. Fernando had appealed vigorously, but Sri Lanka chose not to review, although the repetitions suggested that the decision was not annulled.

Head reached half a century with 35 balls, but fell shortly after when he tried to hit Jayasuriya for a long time, but Malhumorado Dineh Chandimal in the rope.

The game became, literally, with Vandersay producing a sharp legs sharp from the beginning. He produced a leg rupture in the style of Shane Warne to overcome Marnus Labuschagne, everything ends in his first installment, while Nishan Peiris had a great cry of LBW about the dough rejected with the DRS defending the decision.

Labuschagne in 20 Vandersay Poked until the first slide when Sri Lanka finished the first session with the best spirit. But his mood quickly fought the resumption when Smith broke Jayasuriya on the floor for six to launch what would be a brilliant session for Australia.

Australia selected a heavy attack with turn with the descending machine Murphy and the left shipowner Matthew Kuhnemann to complement the Doring Nathan Lyon.

Mitchell Starc was the only pacemaker named with the whole world Beau Webster capable of the sewing and sewing of the bowling. Scott Boland unfortunately was abandoned after taking 10 Wickts against India in the SCG test.
