The Las Vegas Raiders exchanged for the Seattle Seahawks Campo Mariscal, Geno Smith, meeting with Chief coach Pete Carroll, the sources said Friday Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Las Vegas resigned from a third round of 2025 (92 in general) for Smith, the sources said. The agreement ends his six -year period in Seattle, where he revived his career and became a selection of twice in Pro Bowl.
Smith has a year left and $ 31 million in his contract. The Raiders are assuming the $ 31 million, a source told Brady Henderson of ESPN. The Seahawks will save those $ 31 million in cash and space in the limit while acquiring $ 13.5 million in dead money.
In 2024, Smith, 34, completed 70.4% of his passes while launching for 4,320 yards, 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He helped Seahawks finish 10-7, but they didn’t arrive at the playoffs in their first season with coach Mike Macdonald.
While starting the 17 games, he broke his franchise record for air yards and completion rate, with an offensive with a line over and without a consistent career game. He also led four winning units of the game, giving him nine in the last two seasons to tie Patrick Mahomes in the NFL in that period.
The last winning journey of the Smith game came in the victory of the Se week 18 of the Seahawks over the Los Angeles Rams.
But Smith’s 15 interceptions were the third most in the NFL. Four of its interceptions arrived in the red zone (most in the NFL). His 21 TouchDown passes tied in 13th, and his QBR of 53.8 (21) was the lowest in three seasons as Seattle’s full holder. He was fired 50 times (third majority).
“Geno is our Quarterback,” Macdonald said last month, one of several times that he publicly supported the signal claimsman since the end of last season. “I do not understand the conversation. It is quite obvious that this guy is a great field marshal. He is our field marshal. We love him. We cannot wait to go to work with him.”
Smith occupies the 21st position in the total QBR in the last two seasons. He had the seventh better QBR in the League in 2022, when he did the Pro Bowl, he was appointed comings player of the AP year and took the Seahawks to a position on the wild card after assuming the holder’s position following Russell Wilson’s trade.
The Seahawks signed Smith again with a three -year contract and $ 75 million in March 2023. That agreement gave him the opportunity to win additional $ 30 million through mechanical contracts per contract. Smith connected $ 6 million of those mechanical stairs with their performance last season. Those $ 6 million were added to the bonus of the $ 10 million list that Smith will win on March 16.
Smith unsuccessfully argued a new agreement the low season after seeing several quartbacks charged in large money extensions, and was upset because Seahawks would not give him one, according to multiple sources. It was not a start for the organization given its policy of not renegotiating contracts with more than one remaining season.
The average of $ 25 million from the last Smith agreement held 19 among the Quarterbacks (it was 20 before the New York giants released Daniel Jones) and lasts among the full -time holders who do not have their rookie contract.
The Seahawks were working to extend the Smith contract during the past week, but when progress was not being made, the Raiders intervened and showed interest in acquiring it. With the Seahawks struggling to make a new agreement, they opted for a third round selection.
The news of the Smith’s trade to the Raiders occurs two days after the open Pro Bowl receiver, DK Metcalf, requested that it be Seattle. The Seahawks also launched another star receiver, Tyler Locktt, earlier this week along with four veteran players. The Raiders are among the teams with which Seahawks have talked about a possible Metcalf trade, according to a source.
The exchange, which cannot be made official until the new year of the League begins on Wednesday, leaves Seahawks with Sam Howell and Jaren Hall as Quarterback. The team is expected to look for a veteran QB when free agency begins.
Since Carroll became the Raiders coach in February, he said he wants to start winning immediately. During the NFL exploration combination, Carroll said that the “win” approach of the team should take into account each decision that the team makes by shaping the list for the 2025 season.
“We are trying to take it as far as we can as soon as we can,” said Carroll, 73. “I’m not looking for a period of grace … I don’t think that way.”
Carroll has had an affinity for Smith, at a time in 2023 calling him “one of my favorite boys of all time.”
Smith is expected to be the seventh Marshal of the Raiders to start in a game since the team moved from Derek Carr after the 2022 season.
During the harvester, general manager John Spytek said the team would explore each way by adding a quarterback after Las Vegas ended 4-13 under Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell and Desmond Ridder, who started a game. Minshew is expected to be released at the beginning of the new year of the League, a source told ESPN.
Carroll and Spytek mentioned that O’Connell and Carter Bradley would have the opportunity to compete for work. At the same time, Spytek said: “We have to win more games too.”
Although Smith is an update of the previous headers of the Raiders, they have a lot of work to do to surround their new quartback with offensive talent. Las Vegas has players to work with, like Brock Bowers, who led all wings closed in reception yards (1,194) during his rookie campaign. The open receptor Jakobi Meyers recorded his first race in the 1,000 -yard season after three consecutive years with at least 800.
